I think they will die but they will have to be very under levelled.
Taash can protect the Veil Jumpers while they disable the wards (Confirmed with max faction strength and Hero status)
I am about to confirm that as long as you have all hero and max faction all around only harding/Davrin die. IE it is NOT like the suicide mission from ME2.
I had all veilguard and all max factions and got bellara to disable the wards, lucanis for the war mage and taash for the construct
If I don't make Traash a veilguard and send her to anything other than the war mage, will she die? Asking for a friend.
Surprised no mentioning of Taash above for the construct... who fights dragons and has dragonfire that melts things. Comments seem to indicate a lot of people chose her though.
Wards - HotV Bellara with moderate help veil jumpers success; War Mage - HotV Harding with Excellent crows and lords of fortune success; construct - HotV Taash with excellent Mourn Watch success :)

I succeeded with these assignments (all characters Hero of the Veilguard and all factions maxed): - Wards: (Hardened) Neve - War Mage: Harding - Juggernaut: Taash
Davrin, Bellara on wards (both hero) Taash, Emmerick on Juggernaut (heroes) Lich Emmerich, Taash on War Mage (as hero). Davrin dies (hero & max faction)
