What Is Refinement?

Upgrading Equipment to Improve Stats

Refinement is Crimson Desert's method of upgrading equipment so that you may increase and improve their stats. To refine equipment, you need to gather refinement materials and visit a smithy to have a blacksmith upgrade them. You do not need to spend currency to refine your equipment.

Gather Refinement Materials

Logging and Mining
Before refining your equipment, you need to gather the necessary materials for the equipment you want to upgrade. Refinement materials for a piece of equipment vary from logging trees for timber to mining ore, which you need to harvest with tools in the overworld. Some ways to gather materials are:

  1. Logging trees
  2. Mining for ore
  3. Buying from vendors

Do Rhett's and Turnali's Requests to Get a Pickaxe and a Logging Axe Early

Rhett
After unlocking Hernand in Chapter 1: The First Encounter, head to Hernand City to take up Rhett's Request and Turnali's Request. These short side quests reward you with the Pickaxe and the Logging Axe, respectively, which are the tools you need to start refining your equipment early.

Because both quests require you to fetch materials, you also end up gathering enough resources to refine your first equipment.

Refine at a Smithy
After gathering refinement materials, visit a smithy to refine your equipment of choice. The first blacksmith you encounter is Turnali in Hernand City. At a smithy, talk to the blacksmith and select Refinement to open the screen for upgrading equipment.

Refinement Menu
Select a piece of equipment to refine. On the right panel, you will see a list of materials you need to refine it. Some equipment can be refined by using a duplicate that you were able to find. Unique Weapons, however, do not have this option.

Refined Equipment
Submit the materials to refine the weapon and improve its stats.
