You can unlock and get a pet by raising the trust of an animal to its maximum level in Crimson Desert. Read on to learn how to unlock pets and how to raise their trust to take them in.

Before you can take in an animal as a pet, you need to raise its trust by feeding or petting it until you reach its maximum trust. Feeding is the fastest way of gaining trust, with different types of meat yielding a different number of trust points. Petting is also viable, though it will take a while as one pet is equal to only 5 trust points.
Once an animal's trust has been attained, you will see the prompt to take it in as your pet. Having a pet allows it to gather loot for you.
Trust System Explained: Is Gifting Worth It?
Pets can pick up loot dropped by enemies, as well as gather resources found in the wild. This makes them quite the handy companions, as they allow you to accrue resources faster and spend less time looting corpses.

Since you can only interact with a pet five times per day, you can feed it twice and pet it three times before midnight.
Since the in-game clock resets at midnight, you can repeat this process once the clock hits midnight to obtain the animal as a pet without needing to pass the time.
Hernand is one of the most accessible areas available to you at the early stages of the game, so you can try befriending the dog there.

A Brown Dog is available as a pet at the end of the The Greymanes' New Fangs Faction Quest in the Greymane Camp. As part of the quest objective, you need to gain the Brown Dog's trust to take in it as a pet.
Since this quest requires you to have made progress in the game, you might want to get a pet before you reach this point.
