How to Tame Mounts

Run Up to a Horse and Ride Them

Wild horses can be tamed by running up to them and riding them, it helps when they are unaware so you can catch up to them.

This starts a minigame where you have to move your left stick (controller) or press the direction keys (keyboard) opposite the direction where the horse is facing until the bar fills up.

Attack Them Until They Yield

Some large animals like a bear can be beaten into submission and used as a temporary mount. To do this, keep attacking until they stop moving and a prompt to ride them appears.

You'll then be able to use the animal as a temporary mount until you dismount, at which point they will go back to attacking you.

How Do Mounts Work?

Different Modes of Travel

Different Modes of Travel

Each mount has different modes of travel and may be limited to only either land or air travel. While some mounts can be used for both, they all have distinct characteristics that make them stand out from one another.

Unique Attacks for Each Mount

Breathe Fire on Enemies

Mounts may also help you in battle and each of them have a set of skills they can learn by leveling up. Depending on the situation, you can use the unique attacks of each mount to your advantage.
