How to Play Unarmed Duel

Switch to Ordinary Gloves to Participate

You need to switch to the Ordinary Gloves before you can participate in the Unarmed Duel.

To do this, hold the Left D-Pad and move the Right Thumbstick to move to the cursor to the weapon wheel that contains the Pickaxe and Mallet. While still pointing at that weapon wheel, press LT/L1 to switch to the Ordinary Gloves.

Talk to the Host and spend 30 Copper to participate in the duel.

Lock-On to the Opponent and Use Quick Jabs First

Make sure to lock-on to the your opponent using the Down D-Pad when the duel starts.

When attacking, press the Triangle/Y button to perform quick jabs. These are fast punches that quickly whittle down your opponent's health and can catch them offguard. You can then follow up with a punch (R1/RT) or a palm strike (R2/RT) if they get staggered.

Do not start with punches or palm strikes as your opponent can easily block them.

Parry Using the Guard Button

You can also parry opponents when in unarmed combat. Press the L1/LT button when the opponent is about to attack to parry. A green particle effect and a blur effect will appear when you successfully parry the attack.

Why Do You Glow Green?

Avoid Using Grappling Moves and Pump Kick

The Unarmed Duel minigame only allows you to use basic punches and palm strikes. Using grappling moves, pump kick, and other unarmed combat upgrades will get you disqualified immediately and the 50 Copper reward will go to your opponent.

The Unarmed Duel minigame is located at the Goldenfist Arena south of the city of Hernand. Talk to the man wearing the red tunic to participate in the duel.

Unarmed Duel Rewards

50 Copper

Winning a round of unarmed duel rewards you to 50 Copper as a way to recoup a part of your participation fee.

Best Ways to Farm Money

Challenge Completion

Participating and winning each round of Unarmed Duel is required if you want to complete all the minigame challenges available.
