If caught or killed by guards, you will be imprisoned. Upon release, your wanted status will be cleared. However, this is at the cost of more deductions to your Contribution EXP in the region, which has already been deducted by the crime (or crimes) you committed.
Because of how much you lose for being imprisoned, it is recommended to avoid being wanted by leaving the scene of your crime in the Spotted stage.

Buying a Writ of Absolution is another way of clearing or getting rid of the the wanted status especially when you're wanted in multiple regions. In Hernand City, you can buy a Writ of Absolution by talking to Alfred in the Church of Hernand.

Players are fined by the Tax Collector when they receive a large sum of money illegally, such as by exchanging a stolen Gold Bar for silver or selling stolen items. Players who are fined cannot use the bank until they pay a 50-silver fee.
If you try to enter a bank in a region where a fine has been imposed on you, but you have refused to pay it, the guards at the entrance will kick you out.
Receiving a fine does not make you a wanted person, so you can still freely roam the region where you were fined. You will only be restricted from using the bank, and the guards will not pursue you.
In effect, you can safely ignore the fine if you don't plan on using the bank.

To pay the fine imposed by the tax collector, speak with the guard in front of a bank in the region where you were fined. A dialogue option will appear, allowing you to pay the fine through him

Paying your fine for the first time will complete the associated quest, The Price of Coin. You will receive the Unique Glass Art item, which you can sell to recoup the cost of the fine.

In Crimson Desert, you have the freedom to commit crimes, but doing so will alert eyewitnesses and guards. If you continue committing crimes or linger too long in the crime scene, you will become wanted. As a result, a bounty will be placed on your head and you will be pursued by guards.
| Wanted Status | Condition |
|---|---|
| Spotted | This status is triggered immediately after committing a crime. You still have a chance of escape by leaving the search area indicated by the red radius on your mini-map. |
| Searching | This is what the Spotted status evolves to when you fail to leave the search area or continue committing crimes. Guards become alert and begin searching for you. |
| Arresting | You are now spotted by the guards, who will engage you in a fight to apprehend you. If caught or killed, you will be imprisoned. In the case of being killed, you will respawn in prison. |
You always begin with the Spotted stage after committing a crime, as long as there are eyewitnesses in the area. Depending on your actions, you may leave the crime scene to avoid worsening your wanted status or continue committing crimes until the guards intervene.

While in the Spotted stage, you can avoid being wanted by leaving the red radius indicating where you are being searched. You can check how much time you have to escape by looking at the white timer on the upper right of your screen. This timer also appears in the Searching and Arresting stages.
By leaving immediately, you avoid being reported by eyewitnesses, which will raise your wanted status to Searching if you linger too long in the area.

If in the Searching stage after committing a crime, a bounty notice for you will be put out along with the bounty money for catching you. Bounty money increases for each crime that you commit. For example, committing assault adds 5.00 Silver on top of the bounty money for the crime you were initially accused of.
If imprisoned, the bounty money also serves as the amount of Silver you need to pay for your crime (or crimes).
On the other hand, the more crimes you commit, the more Contribution Points you lose in the region where you did the crime. The deductions stack each time you commit a crime. Because of this, you may reach negative Contribution EXP.
