According to the developers, Pearl Abyss, Crimson Desert was originally conceived as a prequel to Black Desert Online. However, during development, the concept evolved into an entirely new story with its own cast of characters, creating a standalone single-player experience that is not directly connected to the events of Black Desert.

Alustin and Shakatu

From the 50-minute gameplay feature uploaded on the official Crimson Desert YouTube channel, familiar faces from Black Desert Online can be spotted. Among them are Alustin the Alchemist and Shakatu the Goblin Merchant, both of whom are shown interacting with the main protagonist in quests.

Additional characters and bosses from Black Desert have appeared in other previews, and more may be revealed in the game’s full release.

For digital pre-orders, the rewards are automatically applied to the linked Black Desert account. For physical pre-orders, players must enter the bonus code included in the package after Crimson Desert’s launch to claim the items by visiting the official Black Desert coupon page. These bonuses will be available starting March 20, 2026 (UTC).
