How to Log Trees

Equip a Logging Axe and aim at a tree to chop it down with vertical and horizontal swings in Crimson Desert. See here for a step-by-step guide on how to log trees and get timber.

Use a Logging Axe

The Logging Axe is the required tool to harvest timber and fine timber from trees. The controls are similar to mining ore, with the addition of buttons for swinging horizontally and vertically. Follow the steps below to learn how to log a tree:

  1. Equip a Logging Axe
  2. Aim and Chop the Tree
  3. Chop the Tree Trunk
  4. Chop the Log

1. Equip a Logging Axe

Toggle Axe in Quick Menu to Equip

After finding a tree to log, go to your inventory or quick menu to equip a Logging Axe. To access the quick menu for gear, hold the left D-pad on the controller or the T key on PC and equip the Logging Axe under the Armed Combat tab.

Note that you have to toggle the axe in the quick menu and check if Kliff is holding it in his hand to make sure that it's equipped.

Left Click / Right Click

Aim at the tree, making sure that the blue ring is visible on its surface. This indicates that you can chop the area. Next, while still aiming, press the weak attack or strong attack button to swing the axe horizontally or vertically, respectively.

You can still log a tree without pressing the button to aim, so you can just swing the axe as you would normally attack with a weapon. However, it is easier to log a tree by aiming as you tend to miss without doing so.

As the tree falls, step out of the way to avoid getting hit and taking damage.

3. Chop the Tree Trunk

Chop the Tree Vertically
With the tree downed, approach the fallen trunk to chop it. The trunk will be reduced to a log that you need to chop again.

4. Chop the Log

Chop Log to Get Timber
Approach the log and chop it to finally harvest your materials.

Use Turning Slash

The Turning Slash skill is also effective for logging trees if you do not have a pickaxe. With your weapon equipped, stand in front of a tree and charge it up to slash it, causing it to fall over. From here, you can continue using Turning Slash until you can harvest the materials; otherwise, you can chop with your logging axe.

Note that performing Turning Slash each time consumes Spirit.

Loot Enemies or Buy a Logging Axe from Alden's Provisioner's Shop

Alden Provisioner

You can get a Logging Axe by looting enemies or buying from a vendor like Alden in Hernand City. If you do not happen to get an axe as an enemy drop, visit Alden to obtain one immediately.
