Meet the Witch During the Witch of Wisdom Questline

Z - How to Equip Abyss Cores
You can equip Abyss Cores after unlocking the Witch of Wisdom Faction Questline, which becomes available after completing the Chapter 5 - Exposed Plot. During the first Witch of Wisdom quest, you will meet Elowen, who will help you harness the power of Abyss Cores to improve your gear.

Add Sockets to Your Equipment

Z - Add Sockets to Your Equipment
You will need to add sockets to your equipment to slot in the Abyss Cores you obtain. You can do this by using the services provided by Elowen and selecting the Create Socket option. Note that this costs silver and the cost increases the more sockets you add.

How to Unlock Core Slot

Max Slots per Item Type

Item Type Max Slots
One-Handed Weapon 3
Off-Hand 2
Two-Handed Weapon 5
Ranged Weapon 5
Head 1
Body 3
Gloves 2
Boots 2

Each item type has a set maximum number of slots you can add, and certain armor types (such as Cloaks and Accessories) cannot be slotted with Abyss Cores.

Z - Embed Abyss Cores Into Your Gear
Once your gear has the necessary sockets, you can embed Abyss Cores to gain additional effects when using that equipment.

Extract Unwanted Abyss Cores

Alternatively, you can extract any unwanted Abyss Cores that are already embedded in your gear to transfer them to another piece of equipment or to free up sockets.
