In The First Descendant, DBNO stands for Down But Not Out This status occurs when a Descendant’s HP drops to zero but they are not immediately eliminated from the game. Instead, the Descendant enters a downed state where they can still be revived by teammates within a certain timeframe.
However, when you're in a mission with others, dying takes one count from the Death Counter, and if you run out of Death Counters, the mission fails. Additionally, when playing solo, players do not enter the DBNO phase.
You can increase your DBNO duration by equipping External Components that feature a DBNO substat, giving your allies more time to revive you and keeping you in the fight longer. However, this is very situational, and it's usually better to prioritize External Components with more critical substats.
