The fastest way to level up your Mastery Rank is to level up descendants and increase any Weapon Proficiency. Although completing missions will provide progress, it's best to level up Descendants and increase Weapon Proficiency in Albion Resource Defense Missions.
General Round Weapons, Launchers and some Ultimate Weapons that can deal AoE damage are great weapons to use when farming for Weapon Proficiency. This is because they can clear mobs fast, allowing them to gain more proficiency than other weapons.
Albion Resource Defense missions are Special Operation missions that become available in Kingston, Echo Swamp, and Fortress after completing all missions in their respective regions. The objective is to defend an object against up to 21 waves of enemies, allowing you to kill many enemies with almost no limit.
The defense mission in Kingston is best for early-game farming, while the one in Echo Swamp is best for mid-game and end-game farming. The defense mission in the Fortress is best when running as a team, as level 90+ enemies may be overwhelming for low-level Descendants and Weapons.
Albion Resource Defense missions have a shield icon on the map, and will only be available once you complete all missions in the region.
Completing missions for the first time also grants you mastery, though not as much as the methods above. Still, if you have many pending missions, you can go ahead and do them to rank up mastery.
The highest Mastery Rank you can achieve in The First Descendant is Mastery Rank 30.
Raising your Mastery Rank increases the total capacity and limit of all your inventory slots, and it can also unlock new features in Albion that you can use to improve your Modules, Weapons, and Descendant.
Having more inventory slots is crucial in the early game to ensure you can pick up better weapons as you progress through missions. Make sure to increase your rank whenever Mastery Rank Up Available appears and return to the Prime Hands as soon as possible.
