Best Pokemon for the Story

Best Partner for Pikachu

Pokemon Type
Totodile ImageTotodile
Type 1: WaterWater

Type 2:

As an Electric-type, Pikachu needs to worry about Ground-types, which are immune to Electric-type moves, and Grass- and Dragon-types, which resist Electric-type moves. This is where Totodile comes in as his partner.

Since Totodile has access to Water and Ice-type moves, it can easily cover for Pikachu.

Notes

  • STAB Thunderbolt is a strong and highly reliable, AoE move for Pikachu. Its starting Sp. Atk is abnormally high so even in the early game, it is already powerful.
  • Grass Knot is also a Special move that provides Pikachu with more coverage. This includes the Ground types Thunderbolt can't hit without Steamroll.
  • Iron Tail is a Physical move but it gives Pikachu with more coverage.
  • Quick Attack provides Pikachu with some range.
  • You can consider replacing a move with Thunder, but Thunderbolt is more reliable due to its higher accuracy.
