The First Descendant is a free-to-play game with microtransactions that mostly focus on cosmetics. This makes the game friendly for free-to-play players, as most of the shop offerings do not provide significant benefits to players who spend money.
For this very reason, The First Descendant is not a Pay to Win game and can be enjoyed without spending money. If you do choose to spend, it will mostly be for cosmetics to bring more personality to your chosen characters!

Offers Mostly Cosmetics for Paid Content
Most of the paid content in the game consists of cosmetics, such as skins, spawns, and even makeup, which can be purchased in the store using Caliber. This makes the game more friendly to free-to-play players and makes it less pay-to-win.
It also offers some boosts, such as Weapon EXP and Descendant EXP, which are only there to help players level up faster or obtain more materials, like Kuiper Shards. These can all be achieved without boosting!
Other Paid Content Can Be Obtained by Research
Additionally, some of the shop offers in the game, such as Descendants and Ultimate Descendants, can be obtained through Research. It may take a bit of a grind to get the characters you want, but it helps you save money from buying them!
