Cornered in the Catacombs Objectives
Defeat the Darkspawn
Head toward the catacomb until you find a pathway blocked by Blight to the left. This will explode upon your approach, and will open a path to an open area with multiple Darkspawn. Make sure to destroy the Blight boils on the floor to stop the enemy from respawning.
Continue down the catacombs, defeating enemies as you go along. Eventually you will enter a large area with an Evanuris Altar. As before, defeat all enemies here while destroying the Blight boils on the floor.
Destroy the Blight
Once you have defeated all enemies and destroyed the Blight boils on the floor, you must now clear out the rest of the Blight boils. Start with the large tower in one end of the room, followed by all of the currently glowing boils.
Have Assan Help You
Once you have destroyed all of the boils that you can, look above the Evanuris Altar. You will discover a glowing circle of Blight just out of reach. Have Davrin order Assan to attack the boil, or use the Lyrium dagger if Davrin is not in your party.
After Assan attacks the boil, you will have around ten seconds to attack the boils connected to it. You may need to call for Assan multiple times, especially if you are also trying to solve the Evanuris Altar.
Once all the Blight has been cleared, continue forward until you reach a dead end. To your right is a tunnel with water and some movable rocks..
Get Past the Stone Puzzle
This puzzle will require Harding's Stone Sense. If you don't have Harding on your team, then the Lyrium Dagger will suffice.

Defeat the Darkspawn Boss
Destroy the Blight blocking your way and enter the elevator. Ride it to the top and destroy any active Blight boils you see. Once all of the active Blight boils have been cleared, numerous Darkspawn will spawn, including an armored Darkspawn with an axe.
Use heavy attacks on the boss to destroy its armor, then go in for the kill. Make sure to avoid its unblockable attacks.
Once you have defeated the boss, destroy the rest of the Blight boils. One of the now open pathways will lead right back to Warden Vesta, who is now being cared for by the Shadow Dragon Quillon.
