Valentine's Owain has a very high Spd stat at 42. This is on par, and with a superboon, higher than most heroes in the game. Maximizing his Spd will lead to better matchups, thus we recommend +Spd for his boon.

As for his bane, Owain's Res is sitting at an abysmal 21. This is beyond salvageable, thus -Res is the bane of choice.

+Spd for a +10 Merge

We recommend +Spd as a boon when merging Valentine's Owain up to +10 and investing max dragonflowers. His Spd is higher than most heroes in the game, and as a unit with no unique weapon or skills, Owain needs every advantage he can get, even if it is a minor one.

Valentine's Owain Strengths

Piercing Tribute+ is a solid, well-rounded, inheritable weapon

It may not be a prf. weapon, but it is a solid one to say the least. +5 Atk/Spd is very valuable for a speedy unit like Valentine's Owain. The trigger conditions for these valuable bonuses are pretty easy to meet, too!

Additionally, it also neutralizes effects that guarantee foe's follow-up attacks during combat. That coupled with the Spd boost can be considered as great protection against all kinds of follow-up attacks!

If you are not interested in building Valentine's Owain, at least you have this solid lance for fodder.

Very Powerful Special Attack

Blue Flame boosts damage by 10, but if Owain is adjacent to an ally, it boosts it by 25 instead.

This damage coming from Blue Flame is pure and cannot be reduced by the Def stat. Although it can be reduced by damage reduction!

It is separate from Owain's normal damage which is calculated by his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.

This means that Owain can deal huge damage even to foes with very high Def stats.

Atk/Spd Bond Increases Offensive Power

Atk/Spd Bond 3 increases Owain's Atk and Spd by +5 if he is adjacent to an ally.

Since it is an in-combat buff, it stacks with other combat buffs, so it is good to pair with units that have skills like Joint Drive Atk. The trigger conditions are very compatible with his signature Blue Flame so his base kit will feel really smooth. The to-be-discussed Wings of Mercy also comes into play when it comes to having a well-knit kit.

Warp to Allies to Easily Activate Bond and Blue Flame!

In this scenario, bonuses from Piercing Tribute+ and Atk/Spd Bond 3 are active! This results in a hard-hitting Blue Flame. All this can be set up easily thanks to WoM!

Wings of Mercy 3 allows Valentine's Owain to teleport to spaces adjacent to allies if their HP ≤ 50%. This allows Valentine's Owain to potentially turn the tides of battle together with that ally by automatically harnessing the power of Atk/Spd Bond 3, and Blue Flame upon teleporting. Tons of Aether Raids strategies involve the use of Wings of Mercy so Owain can participate in those if needed.

The ability to teleport to allies in need can also be very important in Grand Hero Battles where every unit must survive to win the map!

Valentine's Owain Weaknesses

Low Res

Owain's Res only sits at 18 at Lv.40. This makes it easy for magic users to take him out. Be mindful of Owain's positioning in relation to magical units that can easily take him out. Use his cavalry movement to properly position him.

Weak to Cavalry Effective Weapons

Valentine's Owain takes 1.5x damage from cavalry-effective weapons like Thani or Binding Reginleif, and one blow from this type of weapon will deal significant damage. Make sure you know what weapons you are up against before hopping too far into the line of battle!
