In a certain town, every witch believes that they are the chosen ones. They believed that they are the group of people who are meant to rule over humanity and gain control over the world.
This is the town Lillicotte lived in, and she believed this idea for her mother and three elder sisters, who were all idolized for being witches. Lillicotte wanted to follow in their footsteps.
Lillicotte was not allowed outside. Her mother told her that her health was too poor and that it was best for her to stay indoors. Yet, Lillicotte could handle it. She had her mother and sisters who she trusted after all.
Then, one stormy night, Lillicotte overheard her mother and sisters talking. They all had sad looks on their faces as they spoke. They said that even though she was already ten years old, she still had not awakened as a witch.
The news was a shock to Lillicotte, not only because she thought she was already a witch, but also because she thought her own family was ashamed of her for not being a witch like them.
Upon hearing the news, Lillicotte ran back to her room and locked it. Her eldest sister explained to her through the door that people who have not awakened as witches by their eighth birthday will be exiled. However, she was also fearful of worse things happening to her should she be discovered.
Shortly, however, the townspeople were able to confirm that Lillicotte was a human in hiding among her family.
The town's witches interrogated Lillicotte's mother and sisters. Cornered and found out, her family's true beliefs came out. Her family defended Lillicotte, even going so far as to question the town's beliefs about the superiority and supremacy of witches over humans. Yet their persuasion fell on deaf ears, and soon after, an explosion rang out inside the house.
From behind the door, Lillicotte heard everything. She had one last conversation with her mother, wounded and dying from the explosion. Lillicotte promised to remember how her mother and sisters truly felt before losing consciousness herself.
When Lillicotte awakened, she was surrounded by unfamiliar witches and floating objects that once belonged to her family. Lillicotte hated the witches and wanted to destroy them for what they had done when she was stopped by a parasol, one of the floating objects that belonged to her sister, as if it was shielding her from the witches.
Now, instead of hatred, Lillicotte felt defiant. She wanted to prove them wrong and build a world where humans and witches can truly coexist. Only then would she take pride in being a great witch.

Witches are the chosen ones, meant to rule over all foolish humans and control the world. In this town, that's what every witch believes. That's Why my mother, who was born a witch, is revered by the whole town. My three elder sisters are also idolized for being the daughters of such a special witch. It goes without saying that one day, I'll follow in my mother and sisters' footsteps, and— "If you use your power from a young age, you'll rely on it too much. I'll train you on how to use it when you're older." Oh, come on... Mother, you worry too much...! "Say, Mother... Do you think I can become as great a witch as you one day?" But, instead of answering, Mother only flashed me a smile. A soft, but sad smile...

Through the window, I gazed out at the sky, which looked as if it would pour down rain at any moment. "Do you wish to go outside?" That's what my eldest sister asked me, her parasol in hand. She looked sad as she said it, just like Mother did... "No. I promised Mother to stay indoors since my health is poor, remember?" My third eldest sister then softly squeezed my hand, and said... "Today, I'll tie your hair with your favorite red ribbon, Lillicotte..." After that, my second eldest sister closed her pocket watch, and poured tea into each of our cups. "The first time you leave this house, we'll all go together. We promise." Then, my sisters all hugged me. Their embrace felt so warm, it almost tickled. Even if I can't leave the house yet, I can handle it. I have my mother and my sisters here with me, after all.
Chapter 3
---
"That girl is already ten years old, yet she still hasn't awakened as a witch. At this rate..." One stormy night, I overheard my mother say those words, and felt my mind go blank. "'Still'...? But... I'm already a witch, aren't I...?" At my whisper, my mother and sisters looked at me in shock. Then, in pain... Oh, I get it... They all had those sad looks because of how guilty they felt about me, huh...? I'm not a witch, so I have no power... That's why I couldn't be given any training... The reason I was never allowed to leave this house... was all so they could hide their shame over me not being a witch...! I was the only one born different...I was the only one confined here... And I was the only one they never...! "...! You're all liars...!!" I then ran back to my room and locked the door. My head's spinning so much... I don't know what to believe anymore...!
Chapter 4
---
As drops of rain pelted the window, my eldest sister spoke softly through the locked door. "It was all to protect you. In this town, girls who haven't awakened as witches by their eighth birthday are, by law, to be exiled." "If the townspeople found out about you, they would surely come to take you away... For a young girl like you to survive alone in the world outside is..." "...No... Your discovery could lead to much worse than that... That's why, we...!" My sister's voice began to tremble... As though she had been truly overtaken with fear... I've never heard her sound so rattled before... But, just as I was hesitantly about to twist the door handle... "So... There's a human here, is there?" Besides my family's, that was the first witch's voice I had ever heard...
Chapter 5
---
"Why do you keep up the Witch Hunt against children who fail to become witches?!" Breaking through the tension, Mother's voice rang out. "What defines a human or witch is all but trivial. Look inside each Of us— surely we're all the same. That's why this child and I can coexist... No... We will...!" "...Ahh... l...finally said it..." Mother... "She may not be a witch, but that girl is still our adorable little sister...!" Sisters... I feel the same... I want to stay here with all of you too...! "Is that so...? ...What a shame." After that, a thunderous explosion rang out, and the house became filled with a cacophony of noise.
Chapter 6
---
Before I knew it, the house fell silent once more. I quietly called out to my mother and sisters. "Lillicotte...? Good... It seems...casting that protective charm on the door...worked..." I could see Mother's brooch through the keyhole. But, when I tried to call her name, my lips wouldn't move... I heard a drip fall, then saw a pool of something slowly seep in from under the door... "I can still remember the day you were born... so clearly... Wondering just what kind of witch... you would one day become..." Mother, open the door...! Your wounds need tending, quickly...!! "But, such thoughts... weren't what truly mattered... I'm so sorry, Lillicotte..." Enough of that, just hurry and—!! "Please, never forget... Just how much...we all..." ...I won't...! Even if I can't remember your voice... I'll always remember what you truly felt...! I leaned against the door to be closer to her... before feeling my own consciousness fade...
Chapter 7
---
Nrgh... Mm...it's so bright... Is that you, Mother...? When my puffy eyes finally focused, I saw a group of unfamiliar witches standing before me. "It seems that this little witch survived." "Little witch"...? Following their eyes, I suddenly saw several objects floating in the air beside me. They were... A brooch. A parasol. A pocket watch. A ribbon. Each object, having lost its master, seemed to be calling out to me... We wanted to protect you. We wanted to be with you longer. These...were my mother and sisters'...! "There's no need to shed any tears for traitors who defend humans. If you have any pride as a witch, lift your head. Us witches are the chosen ones, after all." The chosen ones...? ...Don't make me laugh. A black, hot something... began to bubble up within me... ...Ah, yes... This must be what they call, "hatred"... I want to destroy them... Each and every one of these witches before me...! Suddenly, my sister's parasol popped open without a sound. The white lace obstructed my view, its handle facing towards me. As though it were shielding my eyes from evil, and prompting me to walk the path that was right... " My dear sister, I do apologize. That was far too hasty for a lady, wasn t it? But, don't you find all that talk of 'taking pride as a witch' simply dreadful?" "For them not to realize they're no different from those witch-hunting humans... It's so laughable, it's pathetic." I grasped the parasol's handle, and turned to walk away. The rain had lifted, and I kept walking beneath the clear sky. I'll prove them wrong. I'll make a world where witches and humans can coexist, and I'll make them admit that my mother and sisters were right. It would be my honor to lay the foundation for such a world. Only then will I be a great witch... No... Only then will I take pride in being great. So, Mother, sisters... Please, stay by my side, and watch over me...
