The Black Loong can be found in Fright Cliff, Hidden Loong Cavern, which is a secret location that can only be accessed by obtaining the Loong Scales near the First Prince of Flowing Sands boss arena.
Starting from the Fright Cliff, Rockrest Flat shrine, make your way up to the top of the stairs where there is a waterfall of sand. Interact with the waterfall of sand to remove it, revealing a giant door. Enter the door to get to the Black Loong's arena.
Black Loong Strategy |
---|
|
The Black Loong's attacks are slow, making them predictable and avoidable. You can punish its slow attacks by attacking a few times as it winds up its attack, then roll sideways to dodge them. You can also use spells and Spirit attacks. Just repeat this process, and you can quickly deplete the boss' HP.
The Black Loong does a lot of lightning attacks that deal area damage and inflicts the weaken status, so watch out for them and try to dodge them as much as possible.
One of the Black Loong's most devastating attacks is pounding the ground with its maces, creating novas of lightning that cover a large portion of the arena.
The most effective way to avoid getting hit is to find a rock to step on top of and wait until the attack finishes. The boss will do this twice; the first one lasts for about 15 seconds while the second one lasts about a minute.
One crucial point to take note is to avoid using Wind Tamer on the rock or luring the boss to the rock, since it will be destroy if you do so, making it harder for you to dodge the lightning novas. Remember that there is only two (2) in the arena, so be careful of accidentally destroying them.
Although it might seem that using Pillar stance allows you to avoid the lightning by standing on your staff, it actually doesn't work since the lightning will just stun you out of the staff.
When the attack finishes, use the Pluck of Many spell to deplete its HP.
It's highly recommended to use Smash and Thrust staff stances since they deal high amounts of damage against the Black Loong. Try to find openings where you can use the heavy attacks of each stance to deplete the Black Loong's HP.
