Before fighting Black Wind King, consider defeating the secret Chapter 1 boss, Elder Jinchi. Access this fight by ringing all three bells in Chapter 1. List of All Equipment

Dodge the Black Wind Form Attack

Black Wind King’s Black Wind Form attack is difficult to dodge. When he transforms into mist, he’ll explode in a mist burst with a sound cue before dashing at you. To avoid the first attack, keep your distance and dodge forward or sideways. He will follow up with an immediate second attack — dodge sideways to avoid this. Then be wary for the third or fourth one, as they will be delayed.

Save Your Transform and Spirit For the Second Half

Equip the Grey Wolf Mask, the best Headgear available at this point, which you can obtain by deafeating Lingxuzi. This mask increases your damage dealth to enemies below 50% health. Save your Transform and Spirit Skills for the second half of the fight to maximize your damage and make the battle easier.

Black Wind King Character Lore

Black Bear Guai's Human Disguise

Black Wind King is the human disguise of Black Bear Guai, a character and minor villain in Journey to the West. Also known as Heifeng Guai, he lives in a cave in Black Wind Mountain and is friends with both Lingxuzi and the Whiteclad Noble.

In the novel, Black Wind King steals Tang Sanzang's Kasaya Robe after he puts out a fire in Guanyin Temple that Elder Jinchi started. Sun Wukong appeals to Guanyin for help, after which the goddess transforms into Lingxuzi and tricks him into swallowing the Monkey King disguised as a pill. Black Bear Guai then surrenders and converts to Buddhism.
