Black Myth Wukong - Secret Area Ring the Bell.png

Three bells guarded by bosses can be found throughout the first chapter. The first bell is guarded by Guangzhi in the Forest of Wolves. The second is guarded by Guangmou in the Bamboo Grove.

The third bell can be found by going to the clearing to left of the Black Wind Cave entrance after defeating the Whiteclad Noble. Upon ringing all three bells, you will be transported to a new area called Secret: Ancient Guanyin Temple. Elder Jinchi can be fought in the inner section of this temple.

How to Beat Elder Jinchi

Elder Jinchi Strategy

Craft New Equipment

Defeating the Whiteclad Noble unlocks the Serpentscale Armor Set and the Twin Serpents Staff, which you can craft at a Shrine. Make and equip your new weapon and armor to help with your battle against Elder Jinchi.

List of All Equipment

Open All Chests at the Ancient Guanyin Temple

Black Myth Wukong - Ancient Guanyin Temple Chest

There are several chests in the outer area of the temple beyond the first gate. The most important chest to open is the one to the right of the Shrine, right in front of the gate, since this chest contains Guanyin's Prayer Beads, an arm equipment with higher defense than the Serpentscale Bracers that can also increase health and mana upon absorbing Will.

Try to Avoid All Attacks

If you fought Wandering Wight, you'll notice that Elder Jinchi is pretty similar, though significantly stronger. Elder Jinchi has slow but incredibly strong attacks that can easily kill you if you're hit consecutively.

Try your best to keep your distance, dodge all of his attacks, then once his onslaught stops, hit him with a series of Light or Heavy Attacks. You can also Transform or use a Spirit during this downtime to deal more damage.

How to Dodge

Heal by Defeating the Corpses

You may notice some zombie-looking minions surrounding Elder Jinchi. They aren't aggressive, so you don't really need to fight them (yet). However, they can heal you up a bit if you attack them.

Between your gourd and the corpses, you should easily be able to heal back to full in case you're hit by Elder Jinchi's onslaught.

How to Heal

Avoid Exploding Corpses

These docile corpse creatures become dangerous explosives once Elder Jinchi says, "Bullying an old man! Curse you!" They'll chase you from all directions and then detonate. Simply dodge, run away, or hit them in order to avoid getting hurt.

How to Sprint

Attack the Corspses Once Elder Jinchi Levitates

Black Myth Wukong - Levitating Elder Jinchi

Once you get Elder Jinchi down to about half health, he'll start to float in the air. His corpse minions will pop out a few at a time, walk towards Elder Jinchi, and be absorbed once they get close to him.

Absorbing these husks allows Elder Jinchi to regain his health, so try to defeat the corpses before they can reach Elder Jinchi.

Use the Immobilize Spell

Black Myth Wukong - Immobilize Elder Jinchi
Don't hesitate to use the Immobilize Spell, especially if Elder Jinchi's attacks are starting to overwhelm you. Capitalize on his immobility by hitting him with Light and Heavy Attacks.

If you immobilize him mid-attack, get ready to dodge out of the way if he doesn't get staggered upon being released from the spell. It's also a good idea to try to conserve your mana until after Elder Jinchi levitates and tries to heal back up.

For a short duration after activation, grants Burn Immunity and gradually increasing Focus. Highly effective in specific environments and against specific enemies.

Upon returning to the bell near the Black Wind Cave, you can examine the wolf corpse hanging from the tree. This will release the poor soul and give you the Fireproof Mantle.

The Fireproof Mantle is the first vessel item that you can obtain in the game, which can be helpful when fighting the other boss nearby—the Black Wind King.

Elder Jinchi Character Lore

The Corrupt Abbot of Guanyin Temple

Elder Jinchi is a character and minor villain in Journey to the West. Also called the Jinchi Elder, he is a companion of Black Bear Guai in his guise as the Black Wind King and met Sun Wukong and his companions in one of their journeys.

In the novel, Elder Jinchi covets Tang Sanzang's Kasaya Robe and eventually sets fire to his own temple in an attempt to steal it. He is unwittingly foiled by his friend Black Bear Guai, who steals the robe for himself. As a result, Elder Jinchi perishes in the fire he started.
