As a hero obtainable only through Tempest Trials, New Year Keaton will always have neutral IVs by default. The only way to access IVs for this unit is through using Trait Fruits.

+Atk/-HP

The best IVs for New Year Keaton are +Atk and -HP. This allows him to deal as much damage as possible per attack. Additionally, it is a superboon so you should take advantage of it as much as possible. His HP is of less importance so it is safe to take it as a bane.

A superboon adds +4 to an enhanced IV instead of the normal +3.

+Atk for a +10 Merge

We recommend a +Atk IV when merging New Year Keaton to 10. This is for the same reasons as above. This will make it easy for Keaton to land knockout blows on opponents. How to Use, Explanation

This is a build that uses little skill inheritance and bolsters Keaton's tanking capabilities. With his weapon, B skill, and C skill, he can reduce the damage he's taken and retaliate with Quick Riposte as his Sacred Seal.

New Year Keaton is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.

New Year Keaton Strengths

Resolved Fang creates a gap in defense and increases Keaton's damage

If foe's HP ≥ 75%, Resolve Fang:

• Grants +5 Def to Keaton
• Inflicts -5 Def to Keaton's foe
• If Keaton's Def > foe's Def, deals damage = 70% of difference in Def (maximum of +7 damage).

This not only makes Keaton bulkier, but it also provides him with other means of dealing damage. Take note that the damage provided by Resolved Fang is pure and it cannot be reduced by stats. If Keaton consistently wins the Def check, he can deal reliable consistent damage to foes.

In addition to all that, Resolved Fang also provides the standard transformation benefits. In this weapon's case, its +2 Atk and +10 damage upon triggering a Special attack so make sure to inherit an offensive Special onto Keaton.

Useful buff skill triggered by Movement Assists

New Year Keaton's B Skill Atk/Def Link will give him and an ally Atk/Def+6 when one of them uses a movement assist like Swap or Reposition on the other. Since he learns Smite by default, his skills have rather good synergy, allowing him to go offensive or play more of a support role.

You can fling him into the danger zone if the enemies are mostly consisted of physical units. That way, New Year Keaton will tank and throw counterattacks onto them the next enemy phase! If he has not taken an action yet before being flung into the danger zone, he can initiate an attack after to gain a full +10 Atk/Def bonus as Sturdy Blow 2 activates as well.

Monstrous Def stat

With all that said, it can be easy to see that Keaton can stack huge amounts of Def. His base Def is 46 so combined with all his skills, he can reach 61 Def in a single phase! Take advantage of this great stat by picking physical matchups that Keaton can easily win.

Somewhat low Spd and Res

Keaton's Spd and Res only sit at 24 and 20 respectively. This makes it easy for magic users to take him out. His Spd is not abysmally low, so is his Res, but if a speedy magic unit is able to nail a follow-up attack on him, he will take heavy damage.

Be mindful of New Year Keton's positioning in relation to speedy magical units that can easily take him out.

Weak to Beast Effective Weapons

New Year Keaton takes 1.5x damage from beast-effective weapons like Brave Eliwood's Nini's Ice Lance or Picnic Flora's Sæhrímnir, and one blow from this type of weapon is sure to take him down. Make sure you know what weapons you are up against before hopping too far into the line of battle!

He provides both offense and defense especially when transformed so think carefully before fodderring off New Year Keaton! 22 copies of him are available if you were able to snag the 2 copies from Tempest Trials+.
