Valentine's Líf Skills at 5★

Þjálfi Might: 14　 Range: 2 Grants Atk+3. If unit is within 2 spaces of an ally, grants Atk/Spd/Def/Res+6 to unit during combat, unit makes a guaranteed follow-up attack and reduces the percentage of foe's "reduce damage by X%" skills by 50%, but after combat, if unit attacked, deals 20 damage to nearest ally. (Example: a foe with a "reduce damage by 45%" skill would reduce damage by 23%.)

Glimmer Cooldown Count = 2 Boosts damage dealt by 50%.

Atk/Def Push 4 At start of combat, if unit's HP ≥ 25%, grants Atk/Def +7, but if unit attacked, deals 5 damage to unit after combat.

Lull Atk/Res 3 Inflicts Atk/Res-3 on foe and neutralizes foe’s bonuses to Atk/Res (from skills like Fortify, Rally, etc.) during combat.

Valentine's Líf's Duo Skill Effect

Deals damage to foes within 3 spaces = 10 + 50% of total damage dealt to HP of allies within 3 spaces (max damage: 40). Inflicts Atk/Spd-7 on foes with 3 spaces of unit through their next actions. When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.

+Atk/-Res

The best IVs for Valentine's Lif are +Atk and -Res.

His kit revolves around dealing large amounts of damage while buffing himself and debuffing enemies, and is discussed in the Strengths and Weaknesses section. He also has guaranteed follow-up attack through his weapon's effect if he is within 2 spaces of an ally.

Because his Res is already pretty low, it's all right to take it as a bane. Alternatively, because it's also low, -Spd will also work as Lif does not need it to score follow-ups or trigger any of his abilities.

+Atk for a +10 Merge

For the same reasons stated above, it's highly recommended to increase this stat if you plan to +10 him. His attack goes up to 65 at max merges, possibly more if it's his boon, enabling a higher one-hit potential.

How to Use, Explanation

This is Valentine's Lif's base kit, with Reposition as an inherited skill and Death Blow 3 as his Sacred Seal. Since his base kit is already good by itself, all he needs is any assist skill and Death Blow 3 for more firepower when he attacks.

How to Use, Explanation

This AR-D build uses A/R Far Trace to retreat after attacking, allowing dancers who are in the backline to refresh Líf's turn and attack again. No assist skill is used so that Líf attacks before other units on the team, allowing the dancers to follow-up.

Valentine's Líf is a ranged magic attacker (range = 2). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Res stat.

Duo Skill Available!

Valentine's Líf's Duo Skill raises his arena score, in addition to dealing damage to several nearby enemy units. Duo Heroes have a Duo Skill which can be used without performing an action. Additionally, his Duel effect treats his stats as 190 in Arena modes, giving him a huge advantage over many other heroes.

This duo skill deals damage to foes within 3 spaces (increasing with the amount of damage dealt to allies) and debuff them.

Valentine's Líf Strengths

Massive Self-Buffs and Debuffs on Enemy Units

Lif's +13 Atk, +6 Spd/Def/Res boost and the guaranteed follow-up attack reflects in this battle against a green mage.

Valentine's Lif weapon grants him Atk/Spd/Def/Res+6 during combat if he is within 2 spaces of an ally. He also gets a guaranteed follow-up attack and reduces an enemy unit's damage reduction skill.

His duo skill also inflicts Atk/Spd-7 on foes with 3 spaces their next actions and his C skill prevents enemy units from healing.

These skills make Valentine's Lif a powerhouse and being a red tome unit, can actually prove effective against enemies like Legendary Edelgard and Brave Edelgard.

Fatal Smoke Prevents Healing

A new skill, Fatal Smoke 3, is available for Valentine's Lif.

This skill is a massive game changer, as he not only prevents enemy units from healing during and after combat, but he also inflicts【Deep Wounds】on his target and foes within 2 spaces.

This means that units that have sustain Specials like Aether, Sol, or anything similar cannot heal themselves even if they engaged combat.

This also means that healers cannot bring their allies' HP pools back up and neither will the Healing Tower heal units on Aether Raids.

Valentine's Líf Weaknesses

Fragile

Valentine's Lif's default Atk/Def Push skill does give him buffs if his HP is ≥25%, but it also deals damage to him after combat if he attacked.

This, coupled with the fact that he is a mage, means that he is most likely fragile. Furthermore, his weapon or kit does not prevent enemy units from counterattacking him, so anyone who can take one hit and retaliate for massive damage will most likely take him out.

Weak to Cavalry-Effective Weapons

Valentine's Lif takes 1.5x damage from cavalry-effective weapons like Blárwolf+, Dark Spikes T, and Ridersbane+.

There are many cavalry-effective weapons in the game, so be careful and check which ones your enemy units are using!

Wings of Mercy Dancers and Units Using Vantage

Because of Valentine Lif's weapon, he will be dealing damage to his own allies.

This can be taken advantage of by using dancers that have Wings of Mercy 3 inherited, as they can just fly to Valentine's Lif and enable him to act again.

Units that also use Vantage can also take advantage of the weapon skill, as they will be able to attack first even when an enemy unit attacks them first.

Full Cavalry Teams

Valentine's Lif is a cavalry unit, and is thus at home in a full-cavalry team.

Masquerade Sigurd has the advantage of being both a cavalry unit and a dancer, so the points above certainly apply as you can give him Wings of Mercy.

Being in a cavalry team grants Valentine's Lif access to buffs such as Hone Cavalry and Goad Cavalry.

Ultimately, Valentine's Lif is weak against units that have cavalry-effective weapons, even more so if they're blue as he takes even more damage due to color disadvantage.

Weapons such as Duo Ephraim's Reginleif enable him to make a guaranteed follow up attack if his Atk is higher than Valentine Lif's or if Sing/Dance has been used on him.

Bridal Micaiah's Jowful Vows prevents Valentine's Lif from counterattack if she initiates combat.
