When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.
The best IVs for Ancient Gotoh are +Res and -Spd. Res is the key stat for Gotoh as it is his best stat and also the basis of Fundament's stat checks.
Gotoh's Spd is a clear dump stat and can be safely taken as a bane.
We recommend a +Res IV when merging Ancient Gotoh up to +10 for similar reasons above.

Ancient Gotoh's base kit already functions as both a tank/support hybrid. Phantom Res 3 improves the Res checks of Atk/Res Havoc and Pulse Up: Ploy. A different Atk/Res Seal can also be used if you prefer combat boosts.

Ancient Gotoh is a ranged magic attacker (range = 2). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Res stat.

Ancient Gotoh's exclusive weapon Fundament grants Atk/Res+6, a status that reduces area-of-effect damage taken by 80%, and a status that neutralizes foe's stat bonuses during combat to himself and his nearby allies at the start of both player and enemy phase.
In combat, Fundament inflicts Atk/Res penalties onto Gotoh's foe equal to 20% of his Res, grants Gotoh bonus true damage and true damage reduction equal to 20% of his Res, a guaranteed follow-up attack, and 7 HP post-combat healing.
While the in-combat effects of Fundament are on-par with other exclusive weapons, the 80% area-of-effect damage reduction can be useful in specific scenarios such as when fighting Emblem Sigurd.
Ancient Gotoh's exclusive A skill Gift of Guidance grants him visible Atk/Def/Res+10, giving him easy stats at no cost.
At the start of each turn, Gift of Guidance grants Gotoh Special cooldown count -2, his allies Special cooldown count -1, and an extra Special cooldown count -1 to his magic or staff allies.
In combat, Gift of Guidance neutralizes Gotoh's stat penalties, has a built-in Guard effect, and grants Gotoh 50% damage reduction piercing.
With proper teambuilding, Gift of Guidance can pre-charge the entire team's Specials with ease, making it one of the best support skills in the game. The in-combat effects aren't too exciting, but help Gotoh both offensively and defensively as well.
Ancient Gotoh's Spd stat is abysmal at only base 16, which will leave him vulnerable to receiving follow-up attacks.
He will be reliant on his damage reduction effects to survive attacks from fast foes.
