Automaton Engineer Dampe is a side quest that starts north of Hyrule Ranch in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (EoW). Read on to learn how to start the Automaton Engineer Dampe side quest, the echoes for the creature with the big eye and something that shoots hot smoke out of its backside, and what rewards you can get!

The Automaton Engineer Dampe quest can be started by heading to the waypoint just north of Hyrule Ranch and going east into the field. A cutscene will trigger as you head into the area showing Dampe having trouble with a crow that stole his key.
This quest is only unlocked after going through the Hyrule Castle dungeon and completing the Still Missing main quest.

How to Complete | |

1 | After witnessing Dampe having trouble with the crow, defeat the crow and talk to Dampe. He will thank you for retrieving the clockwork key and ask you to come to his house for a reward. |
2 | Head to Dampe's house north of Eastern Hyrule Field. The location will be marked by a quest and you can activate a waypoint right outside the house. Go inside and he'll reward you with five twisted pumpkins. |
How to Complete | |

1 | Dampe will then ask you for new inspiration, he will tell you about a "creature with the big eye, the sort that's always jumping around" and for "something that shoots hot smoke out of its backside to blast forward". Both of these inspirations are echoes that you will need to present to him by summoning it on the pedestal right next to him. |
2 | For the first creature with the big eye and jumps around, use an echo of a Tektite. For the second creature, summon an echo of a Mothula. |

For something that shoots hot smoke out of its backside to blast forward, summon an echo of a Mothula. |
4 | Dampe will take inspiration from the echoes you presented to him and the quest will be completed. Dampe will then reward you with the Techtite automaton and a clockwork key. |

Dampe is looking for the Tektite echo which can be found and obtained from the waters around Seesyde Village.

Completing the Automaton Engineer Dampe quest will reward you with the Techtite automaton as well as a Clockwork Key required to use the automaton.
You can summon an automaton by pressing the Y button after selecting one using the left button on the D-pad. Hold Y to wind it up.
Completing Automaton Engineer also gives you access to Dampe's Journal, which leads to side quests that reward new automatons for the player:
Upon talking to Dampe in his house for the first time, he'll reward you with five Twisted Pumpkins to thank you for saving him from the crow.
Twisted Pumpkins can be used to make smoothies. They are also necessary to complete the Getting It Twisted side quest.
