Since Smog conducts electricity, it's not a good idea to attack it close-range. Instead, use ranged attackers such as the Boomerang Boarblin Echo and the Swordfighter form's bow.
Best Echoes for Combat and Exploration
While Smog is divided into small clouds, it cannot be damaged, so you'll want to combine all the small clouds together until they reform into Smog.
Use echoes to connect blocks and lead clouds into each other's paths. For the Eastern Temple boss battle during Let's Play a Game, it's best to use long echoes such as the Old Bed in addition to single-block echoes, while in the Hidden Ruins during Cotton-Candy Hunt, it's best to use tall echoes and single-block echoes.
For the Smog battle in the Hidden Ruins during the Cotton-Candy Hunt side quest, you can trap a cloud in the square nook at either the bottom left or bottom right of the area using a Decorative Shrub Echo or a stack of the echo of your choice.
This makes it easy to lead another cloud to its location. Remove the echo blocking the way once they're ready to merge.
Cotton-Candy Hunt Quest Walkthrough
You can use Bind on both the small clouds and the fully-formed Smog in order to reverse the direction they're moving in. This is best used if you have two small clouds following the same path.
