How to Get Swordfighter Form

Obtain the Mysterious Sword in Suthorn Ruins

Obtain the Mysterious Sword in Suthorn Ruins
The Swordfighter Form can be unlocked after obtaining the Mysterious Sword in Suthorn Ruins. Interact with the sword on the ground after defeating the miniboss to unlock the Swordfighter Form.

Press the D-Pad Up Button to enter the Swordfighter form, and press the button again to end it early. Swordfighter Form alters the controls and jumps with the B Button are higher than normal.

Attack with Y Button and Hold to Charge a Spin Attack

Attack with Y Button and Hold to Charge a Spin Attack
Pressing the Y button during the Swordfighter Form unleashes an attack instead of summoning an Echo. Holding the Y button charges for a spin attack, and pressing the button mid-jump unleashes a vertical slash.

Defend with ZL Button

Press ZL to Defend
Pressing the ZL button raises the shield, which is able to block incoming attacks. Enemies may stagger when their attacks are blocked, creating an opening for a counterattack.

How to Fill the Swordfighter Gauge

Restore Swordfighter Gauge in the Still World

Defeating enemies and collecting energy scattered in the Still World restores the Swordfighter Gauge. As the gauge cannot be restored in Hyrule, it is recommended to use the Swordfighter Form sparingly outside of the Still World.

How to Level Up the Swordfighter Form

Currently Under Investigation

The Lv. 1 beside the Swordfighter Gauge indicates that it may be available for upgrades. It is possible that the Swordfighter Form may receive upgrades in the following scenarios:

  • Side Quests - completing specific side quests
  • Crafting - using materials found from exploration and enemy drops similar to Skyward Sword
  • Outfits - equipping specific outfits similar to Tri Force Heroes
  • Secrets - discovering secrets similar to upgrading the Magic Meter in A Link to the Past
  • DLC - completing DLC content similar to Breath of the Wild
