You can upgrade weapons and armor by going to the Blacksmith in Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma (RFGoA). Read on to learn more about how to upgrade weapons and equipment, and what you can do with them here!

How to Upgrade Weapons and Armor
Go to Any Village Blacksmith
You can go to any Village Blacksmith to upgrade your equipment. The Upgrade option is immediately available underneath the Forge option once you have unlocked the Blacksmith.
Unlock Blacksmith After Blacksmith Brouhaha 2
Blacksmiths will become available after completing the Blacksmith Brouhaha 2 quest during the Spring Village story. You will need to construct a Blacksmith building to have a Blacksmith available in your village.
Blacksmith Recipe and How to Get
Only Villagers with the Journeyman Smith Quality Can Become Blacksmiths
Villagers with the Villager Quality Journeyman Smith are the only ones who can become Blacksmiths. Even if they have a Trader quality, regular villagers cannot run a Blacksmith.
To make new villagers move in, you will need to level up your Village or evict Slacker villagers.
Villager Qualities and How to Assign Jobs
Upgrade Talismans through Hisui
Talismans cannot be upgraded by Blacksmiths. Instead, you will need to go to Hisui in the Summer Village to get them forged or upgraded.

What to Do with Equipment Upgrades
Increase Stats
You can strengthen your weapon's stats by upgrading them. This way, even weapons that were obtained early on can still be powerful.
You can also do the same with armor, greatly improving your defenses.
Attach Magatamas to Weapons
After you have completed the Winter Village Revived main quest, you will be able to attach Magatamas to your weapons to raise specific stats which will aid you in battle.
Speak to Zaza or Hisui to Increase Magatama Slots
If you want to add more magatama slots on a weapon, or if you want to add one for those that do not, speak to Zaza or any Blacksmith-assigned villagers and select 'Add magatama slots'. You need a Crimson Jewel to add a magatama slot on a weapon.
If you want to add slots for talismans, you also need to speak to Hisui in the Summer Village, as Zaza or Blacksmiths cannot work on talismans.
