How to Start the Freshwater Fishing Frenzy Contest

Talk to Zaza to Start the Contest
Go to the God Shrine at the Winter Village between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM and talk to Zaza. There will be a lot of people in front of the shrine, so you may want to pass through the back or go around the crowd.
If you do not talk to Zaza before 9 AM, the contest will be cancelled automatically.
Go Fishing Until 7 PM
Once you speak to Zaza, the fishing contest will begin. A tracker will be displayed on the left side of the screen which will display your current rank and how many fishes you've caught so far, as well as the placement and current catches of other participants. This will last until 7 PM, when the winners will be announced.
Do note that your current party will be disbanded for the duration of the contest, and speaking to Zaza will not end the contest early.

Head to Watarase's Fishery
Once the timer starts, fast travel to Watarase's Fishery southwest of the village and start fishing. There are four fishing spots here, so you can immediately start fishing and rack up points.
You can leave the village if you want to, but these four fishing spots will suffice for the entire contest and you'll avoid wasting time exploring.
Fish Until 7 PM
You'll have about 17 minutes to fish until it is 7 PM in the game. You'll be able to easily reach and secure first place as long as you keep fishing the entire time.
Other participants will also slowly score points, but if you stay within the area, you'll catch enough fish to guarantee first place.
Garbage Will Not Count
Do note that you will sometimes catch Cans while fishing, which won't count as you need to catch fishes. You'll only fish out garbage a few times, so you can still win the contest as long as you keep fishing.
Freshwater Fishing Frenzy Contest Rewards
Valuable Medal for Winning
If you manage to get first place in the Freshwater Fishing Frenzy Contest, you will be given the Valuable Medal. This is a commemorative item that can be sold for money.
Increased Happiness
Completing a contest regardless of your placement will increase your village happiness.
How to Increase Village Happiness
Money
The Freshwater Fishing Frenzy Contest will also generate profits. The higher your placement, the more money you will earn.
Gold Farming Guide and What to Sell
Seafood Dishes
You can also get seafood dishes for participating in the contest. You can use these to restore health or Rune Points.
