How to Fish and Fishing Tips

Checkmark Press the A Button where you see a fish shadow
Checkmark When the float sinks deeply after a bite, press A to reel it in
Checkmark To catch rare fish, change the weather or time of day

Press A Where You See a Fish Shadow

RFGoA - Press A Where You See a Fish Shadow

You can start fishing by pressing the A button at spots with visible fish shadows.

No bait is needed, so you can fish as many times as you like.

Cast the Float Near the Fish

RFGoA - Cast the Float Near the Fish

Fish naturally gather near the float, but time keeps moving while you fish. This limits how many you can catch in a day.

To make the most of your time, aim the cursor near a fish before casting.

Press A to Reel In After A Bite

When a fish bites and the float sinks deeply, press the A button to catch it. If the float only dips slightly, the catch will fail.

Watch the float’s depth and the water’s ripples to time your press.

Change the Weather or Time of Day to Catch Rare Fish

To catch rare fish, try changing the weather or time of day.

Rain boosts surface fishing, while nighttime works best in the sky islands.

How to Unlock Fishing

Unlocked During “Searching for the Winter God” Main Quest

Fishing unlocks during the main story quest Searching for the Winter God in Winter Village.

It’s not available early on, so you’ll need to progress through the main story to access it.
