Rice can be grown in rice paddies in Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma. Read on for tips on how to grow rice, how to unlock growing rice, and the different types of rice that you can grow in the game.

Unlike most other crops, rice only grows when planted on Rice Paddy tiles and not Field tiles. Plant a Rice Seedling onto a rice paddy in order to start growing your own rice.
While Waterway tiles aren't actually necessary in order to grow rice, they are more convenient since they automatically fill rice paddies with water. If a rice paddy isn't beside a field tile, you or a villager will have to water it every day.
Waterway tiles must be placed directly next to Rice Paddy tiles in order for them to work.
List of All Terrain Tiles and Soil

If you place a rice paddy in the snowy Winter Village, you won't really need to use waterways. The weather is usually snowy here, which automatically waters fields and rice paddies.
Of course, Rice Seedlings don't like growing in Winter Village, so this setup is not recommended.
Different Types of Weather and Effects

Rice Seedlings prefer to be planted in Autumn Village. Planting a crop in a village it grows well in will increase its yield, while planting a crop in a village it's not suited for will reduce its yield.
Planting rice in Autumn Village, which it grows well in, will give you about 24-25 units of rice once harvested if you don't have any Farming bonuses active.
On the other hand, planting rice in Winter Village, which it is not suited for, will give you about 16-17 units of rice if you don't have any Farming bonuses for this village.
Farming Guide: How to Manage Crops

If you want to automate the process of harvesting your rice and planting new ones, you can assign a villager to the Farming job. They will take care of any rice paddies and fields in the village they reside in.
Make sure that the villager you assigned is located in the same village where you planted your Rice Seedlings. If they're in a different village, they won't be able to help out with your rice paddies.
Crops harvested by villagers will automatically be sent to the Shipping Shed.
Villager Qualities and How to Assign Jobs

If you've downloaded the free Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Bundle DLC, you can place a Farmhouse in Autumn Village in order for Sakuna to start appearing in your game.
Sakuna will automatically take care of your rice paddies for you—similar to a villager with the farming job—including harvesting your grains and planting new seedlings. She can only be added to Autumn Village, however.
Sakuna Free DLC: How to Unlock Sakuna

After you complete the Monster Bonding quest, Yachiyo will reward you with the Rice Paddy recipe, Waterway recipe, and some Rice Seedlings. The Autumn Village Revival 2 quest will then start, which will task you with planting rice.
| Seed | Until Harvest | Village |
|---|---|---|
Rice Seedling
|
6 days | Good: Autumn Village Bad: Winter Village |
Sticky Rice Seedling
|
6 days | Good: Autumn Village Bad: Winter Village |
There are two different types of rice that you can plant: Rice and Sticky Rice. Both types of seedlings can be purchased at Yachiyo's Izakaya in Autumn Village.
These two seedlings are grown in the same way and have the same growing time and suitable village.
