| Shops | Production | Housing | Barns |

Shops are establishments that can generate income for your village as long as you've assigned a villager to man them. They also allow you to purchase goods or services from them.
A few examples of shops are the General Store, the Blacksmith, the Teahouse, and the Flower Cart. Some shops can only be manned by villagers with specific villager qualities. For example, Blacksmiths require villagers with the Journeyman Smith quality.
Villager Qualities and How to Assign Jobs

Some buildings can produce certain materials everyday as long as they're placed in your village. They often don't require anyone to be assigned to them and can produce items automatically.
These buildings include the Saltern, Sugar Refinery, and Soy Sauce Distillery. Materials from these buildings will go directly to your inventory or storage—wherever an existing stack of it is placed—but you can also inspect them to collect the items yourself.

Houses are where the villagers working in these development zones sleep. It is recommended to have enough houses to accommodate your entire villager population in order to keep them happy. If villager happiness becomes too low, some may opt to leave the village.
How to Increase Village Happiness

Barns are houses for your befriended monsters. You can collect items from them daily if your befriended monsters produce any such as Buffamoos, Woolies, and Cluckadoodles.
Monsters don't all take up the same amount of space. You can check the Bestiary to see how many spots a monster takes up in a barn.
| How to Get Building Recipes |
|---|
| |

You can learn more building recipes by leveling up your villages. Each village has a different set of recipes you can learn, so if you want to get them all, you need to level up all of your villages.
Village Level Effects and How to Increase

Most of the production buildings can be learned from completing certain Ema Plaques at the Request Board. The request series Spice It Up is one that rewards these buildings in particular, but you may be able to find more requests with other building rewards.

Some buildings, especially the essential ones like the Barn and Chemist, are locked behind story progression. Complete main quests and progress the story if you want to unlock building recipes that provide new features.
