There are four villages that you will visit in Guardians of Azuma. As the Earth Dancer, you will be tasked to restore each village as you progress through the story.
Each village has fixed seasons that will not change as you play through the game. This will allow you to plant crops that are suitable for a certain season regardless of the date.
Walkthrough and Complete Story Guide

One of the main features of the game is the ability to set up your own farms inside development zones via Village Building. You'll be able to develop farmlands and build various buildings and facilities that will allow you to make dishes and weapons.
You can customize these areas in any way you want, so feel free to design villages however you see fit!

You can also entrust villagers to run your farms as you can assign jobs to them. Each villager has their own qualities that makes them suitable for certain jobs, so try assigning them to the task that matches their stats.
For instance, someone who is Burly and a Lumber Expert would be better equipped for Logging than for Farming.
Villager Qualities and How to Assign Jobs

It is now possible to romance that protagonist that you did not choose as your character in the beginning of the game.
Depending on whether you chose to play as Subaru or Kaguya, you will be able to romance them as you progress through the story, with some minor story changes for each.
Romance Options: All Bachelors and Bachelorettes

You can bring up to six characters in your party, which will be expanded as you progress. All in all, your party will consist of the protagonist, three main party members, and three substitutes.

Guardians of Azuma added new weapon types that you can use in combat. The bow and talisman are new weapons that you can use as a secondary weapon, and is primarily used to attack from a distance.

As you travel between villages, you will obtain Sacred Treasures which you can use in combat or when farming. These will have their own dances that have various effects when used.

You will encounter Frog Statues and Wayward Shrines across the map as you explore around the villages. You can perform dances in front of these landmarks to get new recipes for weapons, dishes, buildings, and more.
The Recipe Bread which appeared in previous Rune Factory titles does not return in Guardians of Azuma. New recipes are instead obtained from Frog Statues and Wayward Shrines.

You will also encounter Blights in various places around villages which you need to remove to purify the area. You can use your Sacred Treasures to remove these blights, which gives you access to new areas or give you more spaces to build a farm.
| Differences from Previous Games |

In previous games, same-gender relationships were not available from the start and support were instead added through updates.
This is not the case in Guardians of Azuma as you can already romance characters that have the same gender as your protagonist right from the game's launch.
Can You Marry the Same Gender?

In Guardians of Azuma, skills are acquired by unlocking nodes in various skill trees. You can use experience points to unlock skill nodes to improve Sacred Treasures, attack options, life skills, and more.

Cooking in Guardians of Azuma has been simplified compared to previous titles. The mechanic has been simplified so that even those new to the series can enjoy cooking!

Character sprites during dialogues have been removed in Guardians of Azuma, as all characters have 3D models that appear during conversations.
These makes all characters more expressive as you can see their reactions whenever you talk to them.
Guardians of Azuma is set in the eastern country of Azuma, and events in the game take place several years after Rune Factory 5.
Azuma is a Japan-inspired region which added new elements to the series while retaining the same farming, adventure, and romance mechanics.
