Taking a 1 Star Diamond photo of Hoothoot is quite easy. All you need to do is to capture a close-up shot of a calm Hoothoot in a tree. To achieve this shot, go to Park (Night) research-level 3, and you'll find Hoothoot in a big tree at the end of the river path. Wait till you get closer to Hoothoot and zoom in to take a nice close-up shot.

To take a 2 Star photo of Hoothoot, go to Park (Night) research-level 2. It is kind of hard to notice Hoohoot since it is nighttime. But, try to look for a tree near the river where Magikarp is resting on a rock.
Once you are near Hoothoot, play a Melody and two Hoothoots will appear flying in the air. Focus the camera on the Hoothoot that will land and hide in the grass.
Wait till you get closer to Hoothoot, then hit it with a Fluffruit to make it turn around and face you. To make it in an alert pose, use the scan feature. Take a close-up shot of Hoothoot in an alert pose to achieve 2 Star Diamond.

After encountering Pinsir while passing by through a small path, you'll find Hoothoot standing on the top of a map signboard. Hit Hoothoot with a Fluffruit, it will make Hoothoot off-balanced itself and show its hidden foot.

Taking a 4 Star Diamond photo of Hoothoot is similar to 2 Stars. While Hoothoot is flying in the air, find a nice angle where its face is visible in the frame. The trick here is to play the Melody right after you pass the tree and not before. This will give you some time to find the perfect angle.

I got a 4 star hoothoot; the hoothoot in the tree at night just past the magikarp on the rock, I threw an orb, played music and scanned. 2 more hoothoot flew down and I fed one an apple, when it was doing its happy dance after is when I got the 4 star (I recommend burst as I'm not sure at what part it became the 4star). The hoothoot won't be there if the pinsir and heracross are fighting.
