This is a guide for Order No. 048 - Defeat Higgs and Save Tomorrow in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (DS2). Learn how to beat Higgs, as well as best combat tips and weaknesses for the boss.

Defeat Higgs
| # | Step-by-step Walkthrough |

| 1 |  You’ll only have the Battle Guitar and nothing else for this order. At the start, move forward along the beach while shooting at the running BTs that explode on contact. Keep going until a cutscene triggers, leading into your first boss fight against Higgs. |
| 2 |  This is the first of three phases in the boss fight against Higgs. Stay close to him and use melee attacks with the Battle Guitar. Don’t bother shooting, as he’ll just deflect the shots. Higgs' attacks are easily telegraphed, so you can dodge them by maneuvering sideways. |
| 3 |  After defeating Higgs, you will now enter the second phase of the boss fight, taking place on the tar currents surrounded by red pillars. This time, keep your distance from Higgs, as he will use his flamethrower at you when you get too close. Use the red pillars for cover and shoot at him from afar. |
| 4 |  During the middle of this phase, Higgs will jump onto a Giant BT, which then destroys a row of red pillars. Watch the direction of the collapsing pillars to avoid the debris from it. Higgs will then teleport after on top of one of the red pillars. Shoot him while he's up there! |
| 5 |  Once you defeat Higgs, you will now enter the third and final phase of the boss fight. While similar to the first phase, this fight is a bit more technical. You can now block by holding L2, and dodge by holding L2 and pressing X. Don't get too greedy. Try to land 2-3 hits, then switch to defense. Counterattack after Higgs finishes his attacks. |
| 6 |  Later in this phase, the camera shifts to a fighting game-style view. Both of your movements are slow due to fatigue, but the strategy remains. Stay defensive and strike when safe. Follow the quick time events by pressing circle to shred your guitar against him. |
| 7 |  When Higgs’ HP is low, you’ll be prompted to Finish Him by pressing square. Doing so will trigger a lengthy cutscene, which will move you to the second part of the order. |

| 1 |  You’ll find yourself back in the mountains from Order No. 001, and your objective is to once again return to Sam’s Shelter. You can follow the same route as before, just head down the ridge and continue south toward your destination. |
| * |  You may have a hard time seeing what's on your way due to the fog. Use your Odradek Scanner to make out the terrain. |
| 2 |  Once you're on ground level, keep moving toward Sam’s Shelter. The screen will then fade to white, triggering a cutscene and marking the end of the order. |
| * |  This also transitions directly into Order No. 049, which consists only of cutscenes with no gameplay and serves as the epilogue to the game. |

Charge Your Battle Guitar to Stagger the Boss
During the first phase of the boss fight, you can charge your Battle Guitar to shoot at Higgs and stagger him. This gives you a small window to land some melee attacks.
Eat Cryptobiotes During the Second Phase
You won’t have any Blood Bags to replenish your HP during this order. However, on the second phase, you’ll find cryptobiotes scattered across the arena. Eat them to restore health if you take heavy damage from Higgs.
Don’t Get Too Greedy When Attacking
This strategy applies to all phases, but especially the third phase. Limit your attacks to 2-3 hits, then switch to defense as Higgs does his counterattack. Once he finishes his combo, it’s your turn to strike!

Completing Order No. 048 - Defeat Higgs and Save Tomorrow will unlock the “BB's Theme” music data. You can play this song via the Music Player or through customized structures.
