In order to build your own hot springs, you must first interact with the Miracle Spring closeby The Motherhood at the northeastern corner of Australia. Put the bucket on Sam's head to be transported to Heartman's Spring in Heartman's Lab.

In Heartman's Lab, The Hydrologist will give you a PCC Lv2, which you can use to find and build hot springs all over Australia.
How to Build Hot Spring Digger
Equip the Digger then hold L2 to search for groundwater. The Digger will emit sound pulses that become more frequent the closer you are to a potential hot spring.
Building a hot spring is as easy as planting the digger on the ground and waiting for the building process to complete. You can accept The Hydrologist's Aid Request to build a hot spring nearby.
Aid Requests Explained

Hot Springs can be used as a form of fast travel. Opening up a hot spring will allow you to travel to that hot spring from other currently active hot springs.
How to Fast Travel
Bathing in certain springs provides Sam with beneficial effects, depending on the spring. These effects range from boosting or restoring your stamina, to recharging batteries and more.
Digging a hot spring for the first time gives you the Spring to Life achievement.
Likewise, bathing in a hot spring then looking at the stars will earn you the Written in the Stars achievement. While in a hot spring, hold L1 to look at the stars. Simply look around to discover constellations and you will receive the trophy.
