Death Stranding 2 - Voidouts Explained

Voidouts occur under specific conditions when facing death or encountering BTs in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (DS2). Read on to learn how voidouts work and tips on how to avoid them.

Voidouts Explained

Voidouts Are Triggered When Caught by Catcher BTs

Catcher BT and Voidout

When fighting BTs, you can be grabbed by tar-covered hands and pulled into an encounter with a Catcher. Catchers are large, aggressive BTs that try to grab you. If it eats you during the fight, it will trigger a voidout.

Leaves Behind a Large Crater

After getting killed by a BT and repatriating back to the living world, you'll return to find a massive crater left behind by the explosion. The blast wipes out everything in the surrounding area, leaving it destroyed. The crater is marked by a big red circle with a palm on the map.

You won’t be able to enter the crater, and anything that was once there, including potential Cargo and BTs, is gone.

Reloads Last Save if Important Cargo is Destroyed

Getting swallowed by a BT results in an Order Failed screen if you're carrying main mission cargo essential to story Orders. This happens because the necessary cargo is destroyed in the voidout. When that occurs, you're given the option to reload a previous save.

How to Avoid Voidouts

Make a Save Before Fighting BTs

Make sure to save your game before entering BT territory, especially since saving is disabled once you're near the threat. It's best to create a save at a safe distance before heading into a BT-infested area.

How to Save

Run Away If You Can't Kill the Catcher

Run From Catcher

If you encounter a Catcher, you can try to defeat it using MP Bullets or other anti-BT weapons. Alternatively, you can choose to flee. Escaping safely with your life is always an option.
