How to Drop and Offload your Backpack
Hold Up on D-pad then Select Offload Backpack

To take off your backpack, hold the Up directional button on the d-pad to access your radial menu. Next, use the Right stick to navigate to the top-left option, 'Offload Backpack'. Finally, press X to confirm.
Hold the Triangle Button
For the fastest way to remove your backpack, simply hold the Triangle button. This will automatically remove Sam's entire backpack and can be picked up at any time.
Benefits of Offloading Backpack
Makes Stealth and Combat Easier
Removing the backpack is very handy during combat or stealth sections against human enemies because it significantly helps you avoid detection and improves your mobility during enemy encounters.
When you drop the backpack, all the cargo attached to it is removed simultaneously. This helps shed the tall, heavy, and easily detectable load that would otherwise give away your position by sticking out of tall grass.
Decreases Sam's Weight
Equipped cargo significantly adds to Sam's weight, directly affecting his balance and movement.
With the backpack removed, Sam can move faster, jump higher, and maintain his balance even during rapid actions like running or quickly changing directions, which is especially helpful during combat.
