Death Stranding 2 - How to Kill and Defeat BTs

BTs (Beached Things) are supernatural threats that can prove to be a challenge in Death Stranding 2 On the Beach (DS2). Read on to learn how to kill and defeat BTs and Watchers, as well as combat tips against them here!

How to Kill and Defeat BTs

Use Firearms With MP Bullets

The only type of bullets effective against BTs are MP Bullets. These are especially useful since they work against both human enemies and BTs. Complete Order No. 005 to get MP Bullets early on.

MP Shotguns are ideal for taking down large BTs at close range, while an MP Assault Rifle lets you deal damage from a safer distance. Machine Guns with MP Bullets are excellent choices for boss fights against powerful BTs.

Completing Order No. 005 - Defeat the BTs Near the Former Geophysics Research Lab and Deliver the Prototype MP Bullets will unlock the Anti-BT Effect, which makes your MP bullets effective against BTs.

Order No. 005 Walkthrough

Use Blood-Infused Weapons

You can throw Blood Grenades and Blood Boomerangs farther and with a straighter trajectory by holding down R2 while aiming. These allow you to stealthily defeat and kill BTs in an area from farther away.

Spot the Watchers Early

Watchers are more dangerous BTs that are encountered in Chapter 3, when reaching Australia. Unlike the smaller Gazer BTs that you run into first, Watchers can see you. Their bright green eyes indicate when they’re actively looking in your direction.

Use the scanner to get a heads up on the locations of their ghost forms. The scan helps you plan a safer route or choose which Watchers to engage. They also become visible if they are near you, but that might be too late since you can be spotted when you're already too close.

Watchers Have More HP Than Gazer BTs

Watcher and Transformed BT

Defeating both versions of the Watcher BT.

Watchers require more damage to kill, in both their ghost-like form and after transforming when they get too close. It takes about one full magazine from an Assault Rifle Lv1 (MP) or three Blood Grenades (Lv1) to take them down in either form.

Do a Stealth Takedown for Red BTs

Red BTs that can be encountered in Sub Order No. 106 are immune to MP Bullets and Blood Grenades. To take them down effectively, you’ll need to sneak up to the BT by holding your breath, then use the Blood Boomerang to sever their cord.

Combat Tips for BTs

Try to Defeat the BT Before it Transforms

Try to take out the Ghost-like BT before it gets close to you, or it will summon a more dangerous Catcher. Use stealth to get a headstart in damage with your firearms or Blood weapons on the BT from a distance to take it out.

Keep Your Distance

Keep Distance

BTs are far more dangerous up close, with powerful melee attacks and the risk of triggering a voidout if you're grabbed by a Catcher. To stay safe, keep your distance and rely on ranged weapons.

If you can’t eliminate the Gazer in time and a Catcher appears, you still have options: either fight it or retreat to safety. If you choose to engage, manage your distance and time your dodges to avoid being grabbed.
