| Best for Bosses | Machine Gun [MP] |
| Why It's Good | Long range and one-hit KO when hitting unarmored body parts or headshots. Not suppressed, but alerted enemies line up for easy headshots. |
|---|---|
The Tranq Sniper Rifle (earned by completing Sub Order 101 for The Lone Commander) is by far the best weapon to use against human enemies due to its superior range and one-shot KO capabilities.
Don't let the "it isn't suppressed" warning fool you. Even if it does alert enemies, all you need is a headshot or a single hit on an unarmored body part and MULEs are out like a light at the pull of a trigger.
How to Unlock Tranq Sniper Rifle
If you haven't unlocked the Tranq Sniper Rifle yet, you can instead opt to use the Bola Gun that you get from The Government's Base (after connecting them to the chiral network). One shot from this gun can snare a human enemy, opening them up for a one-hit KO kick (with headshots being an insta-KO).
| Why It's Good | Has Decent range and deals high damage. BTs evaporate under sustained fire. Low mag size makes Lv2 upgrades necessary. |
|---|---|
For general BT extermination, look no further than the Shotgun [MP]. If you find yourself wandering into BT-infested areas, the Shotgun [MP] will help you clear the way with its high burst damage and decent range.
Despite being advertised as a close-range weapon, it is in fact effective at close to mid-range. Spam it once you're near a BT and, 9 times out of 10, it will die and clear the path forward (they also work great against mechs).
The biggest drawback of the Shotgun is its small mag size. You're in for a rough time if you miss a shot, making its Lv2 variant a must-have due to its larger barrel mag (from 8 -> 10 shots) and its underbarrel grenade launcher that you can quickly switch to in a pinch.
If you don't have access to the Shotgun yet, the Grenade Pistol works as a good anti-BT option. You earn this handgun after connecting the Western Environmental Observatory to the chiral network during Order No. 010.
On Brutal difficulty, Watcher BTs die in 4 MP Grenade shots. Since each shot knocks targets back, you can effectively stunlock a BT until it dies. Pair this with the launcher's long range and you end up with a small, compact weapon that can clear 1~2 Watcher BTs (so long as you have an ammo attachment for your backpack).
How to Unlock Grenade Pistol (MP)
| Why It's Good | Has good accuracy at range and deals decent damage, making it effective at hitting weak spots while allowing you to maintain distance. |
|---|---|
Boss fights in Death Stranding 2 are all about hitting weak spots while keeping your distance from big attacks. For this reason, we swap out our high-damage Shotgun [MP] for the more precise Machine Gun [MP] during these encounters.
Offering high stopping power, precise shots at range, and longer times between reloads, Machine Guns are your best option for the prolonged nature of boss fights in DS2. Just make sure you bring along enough ammo to keep it firing (especially on higher difficulties).
How to Unlock Machine Gun (MP)
A good complement to the Machine Gun [MP] is the starter Blood Grenade. Bring a few along if your enemy is a BT since the lingering blood cloud after the grenade explodes can deal damage-over-time (DoT) and, in some cases, even stun the enemy if you throw it at their weak spots during special attacks.
