Failing boss fights in Death Stranding 2 gives you the option to Pretend You Won and skip the battle. Learn how to trigger the Pretend You Won option, and the effects it may have on your playthrough.

Lets You Skip Boss Fight and Continue the Story

Pretend You Won

Choosing the Pretend You Won option will let you skip the boss fight that you keep losing against. By imagining your victory, the game will show a set of slides on how the boss fight played out and will skip to the scene where the boss gets defeated. The story will continue like normal afterwards.

The option also lets you know that the battle may not be completely over if you select it.

Players Won't Get Normal Evaluation

Pretending to win won't get you a normal evaluation that you usually get when completing an order. Instead, players will get an evaluation without the bonus likes that they would have gotten otherwise.

How to Make Pretend You Won Appear

Keep Dying to Bosses

You will eventually get the “Pretend You Won” option after dying to a boss multiple times.

Immediately Appears in Story Mode

In Story Mode, it is possible to get this option even if you're almost invincible throughout that difficulty. If you somehow died even at least once against a boss, you will immediately get the option to pretend you won.

All Difficulty Differences and Best Difficulty Setting

Are There Major Consequences?

Does Not Impact Story or Trophy Hunting

Aside from not getting bonus likes, pretending that you won against a boss does not have any major consequences on the story nor does it stop you from hunting the Platinum trophy.
