MULEs are bandit enemies that can be knocked out but not killed in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (DS2). See how to kill MULEs, if they can be killed permanently, and combat tips against MULEs here!
How to Kill MULEs
Use Weapons to Knock Them Out
MULEs can be knocked out using a variety of non-lethal weapons, including fists and firearms with RB or MP Bullets. They can also be stealthily bound and incapacitated with your Strand. Knocking out all MULEs in a camp temporarily neutralizes their base.
When you successfully knock one down by hitting or shooting them enough, a slow-motion effect will play along with a distinct sound cue. The MULE will collapse, dropping their cargo, which you can then freely take.
Knocked Out Easier With Headshots
MULEs are more vulnerable to headshots and most will be knocked out with just one shot to the head. Heavy bandits and lighter weapons may take more shots landed to fully knock out.
Can Be Knocked Out With Vehicles
You can knock out MULEs instantly by running them over with a vehicle. However, they’ll often try to dodge if you approach them head-on, so be sure to adjust your vehicle’s trajectory accordingly.
Can You Permanently Kill MULEs?
Knocked Out MULEs Wake Up After a Few In-Game Days
After a few days, knocked out but alive MULEs will wake up and resume patrolling their usual areas. This functions like a respawn mechanic, but it's the same enemies coming back rather than new ones.
Combat Tips for MULEs
Use the Odradek Scanner
The Scanner can reliably track the cargo MULEs are carrying, allowing you to pinpoint their locations. Use it when approaching their territory to plan your route and strategy accordingly.
Note: Most MULEs carry cargo that gets detected by scans, but occasionally some without cargo will not be seen.
Stay Mobile
Stay mobile when navigating MULE territory to avoid being surrounded. They frequently throw their Electro Rods as ranged attacks, so keep moving to dodge incoming damage.
Practice Fighting Them in VR Training
You can hone your combat skills against MULEs in the VR Training Room, where you can practice different approaches using stealth, melee, and firearms. This also increases your Stats, helping you in the real world.
