Upgraded Mines give significantly more materials while still keeping the same Chiral Crystal cost in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (DS2). See if you should upgrade mines, the benefits it offers, and how to upgrade them here!
List of Contents

Upgraded mines yield significantly more materials for the same Chiral Crystal cost. While the upgrades can be pricey early on, they’re well worth it in the long run if you plan to farm materials frequently for building and upgrading structures.
The materials you invest in the upgrade are effectively returned after a few mining sessions, thanks to the improved yield and greater Chiral Crystal efficiency. You'll also save more Chiral Crystals in the long run.

You can check how much a Mine needs to be upgraded by hovering over it on the map. Upgrades typically require 2,000 or more total Materials (over 200 kg), so be prepared to transport resources using the Monorail or a Pickup Off-Roader.
Mine upgrades usually require Special Alloys, Resins, Chiral Crystals, or a combination of them. When ready, head off to the mine you want to upgrade.

Once you're at the mine with all the necessary materials, access the mine's terminal and select Upgrade Mine. If the mine hasn't been repaired yet, you can also choose to repair it through the terminal.

Once you're in the upgrade menu, contribute the required materials to begin the upgrade. You can see the remaining materials needed in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
Any excess materials you contribute but not used will be returned to your Private Locker or offloaded as cargo. After all required materials are contributed, the mine will be ready for use at its upgraded level.
