Are they meta defining?
A lot of meta defining units dropped near the end of 2022.
Winter Cordelia is similar to Bridal Catria in that she grants herself and her nearby allies the ability to dish out brave attacks, allowing her team to bust through any unit with ease.
The main difference is that Winter Cordelia requires only one ally, but he/she has to be adjacent, while Bridal Catria requires two allies nearby but they can be up to two spaces away.
Legendary Veronica is a poweful offensive Wind Legendary hero with a loaded offensive weapon in Enclosing Dark. Her exclusive Special Enclosure neutralizes effects that slow down her Special cooldown charges and it also neutralizes non-Special damage reduction effects, allowing Legendary Veronica to reliably trigger her Special and have it deal full damage.
Embla is an oppressive Dark Mythic hero that neuters common metagame strategies simply by existing. Her exclusive C skill Severance inflicts 【Undefended】 and 【Feud】 on all foes within 3 columns or 3 rows centered on Embla at the start of the turn, neutralizes any penalties on Embla, and grants herself 【Dodge】.
【Undefended】 as a status condition prevents Savior skills from protecting the affected unit. Savior Skills are very common in the metagame and disabling them will easily destroy an enemy composition centered around these effects.
【Feud】 as a status condition disables all ally's skills from enhancing the affected unit. Support units are common when using a tanking strategy and this status effectively removes them from the fight.
Seiðr is an Astra Mythic hero available for free, on a New Heroes banner, and on a Legendary banner.
She is a Green Tome cavalry that has great support utility by being able to end an opponent's action immediately, rendering them unable to act. This unique effect is very powerful if utilized correctly.
Finally, Legendary Shez (F) can apply effective damage against any foe upon winning a Spd check, and with the brave effect of Asura Blades, she can defeat any foe quickly in one combat.

It is currently a Fire Season month with the debut of Legendary Shez (F), and these are the heroes we expect to see the most in Arena aside from the usual suspects like Valentine's Chrom and Ninja Corrin (F).
Legendary Shez (F) is the newest Fire Legendary hero. Her Asura Blades is a brave weapon that also grants Special charges, and Swift Slice grants effective damage against any foe upon winning a Spd check.
Eitri remains a top tier Fire Legendary hero with her Grim Brokkr granting 【Canto (2)】, allowing post-combat mobility to retreat to safety after defeating a foe. Her flying mobility also allows her to traverse the battlefield without any hindrances.
Seiðr is a bonus unit given for free in Story mode, and we expect most players to field her in Astra season even in Arena. Her C skill Future-Focused can forcibly end the turn of the closest foe in cardinal directions, while her self-named tome Seiðr grants true damage, a follow-up attack, and denies follow-up attacks of foes.
Winter Black Knight is among the highest scoring units in the game with 200 BST after a Spd superboon. His Solemn Axe grants multiple effects based on an HP check, while his Special Spiral 4 synergizes with Black Luna to deal massive damage every hit.
How to Counter
Legendary Shez (F) is a glass cannon unit and her effective damage is only available when she initiates combat. Simply approach her in player phase and attack her with any unit with a high Atk stat to defeat her.
Eitri's 【Canto (2)】 only functions on turns 1-4. In Arena, she will most likely be using a Rally assist skill and then retreating with Canto, separating her from her allies. You can either save her as the last foe to defeat, or wait out her Canto turns and strike afterwards.
Seiðr's Future-Focused only functions on odd-numbered turns, rendering her without a C skill on even-numbered turns. Additionally, her bulk isn't the best and she is prone to being defeated on player phase.
Winter Black Knight is an excellent enemy phase unit, especially with Savior skills, but he is immobile. Save him as the last enemy and allow him to engage into you in order to prevent getting hit by Black Luna.

The Aether Raids meta has shaken up tremendously with the introduction of Embla.
Her exclusive C skill Severance inflicts 【Undefended】 and 【Feud】 on all foes within 3 columns or 3 rows centered on Embla at the start of the turn, shutting off Savior skills and rendering supports useless.
Players have begun fielding two Emblas, with one in column 2 and the other in column 5. This setup inflicts 【Undefended】 and 【Feud】 onto all six columns, effectively shutting down Save balls from the start.
Cavlines have been the main teammates of an Embla composition, with their extended range allowing instant offense on turn one. With the Emblas shutting off support and Savior, the Cavalry units have no trouble picking off the weaker members of raiding parties.
Legendary Veronica is among the best ranged cavalry units in the game, with Enclosure neutralizing effects that slow down her Special cooldown charges and neutralizing non-Special damage reduction effects. She plays around Hardy Fighter 3 units by attacking consecutively and triggering Enclosure on the second hit, bypassing defensive Specials like Aegis. The Deflect Magic 3 Sacred Seal is also useless due to Enclosure shutting down damage reduction.
These two units have turned Light/Dark season into a nightmare, with the lack of 【False Start】 from Elimine on this season.
Seiðr is a free Astra Mythic hero given on Story Mode, and she is an amazing support hero. Her C skill Future-Focused can forcibly end the turn of the closest foe in cardinal directions upon winning a Res check on odd-numbered turns, allowing time to destroy Aether resources before winning the map. Her self-named tome Seiðr grants allies a status effect preventing their foes from making follow-up attacks, improving their survivability along the way.
Finally, Winter Cordelia is a side-grade to Bridal Catria, granting herself and her nearby allies the ability to dish out brave attacks, allowing her team to bust through team compositions.
Catria Ball teams will choose either Winter Cordelia or Bridal Catria depending on their team composition and color spread, taking into account the proximity requirements of their weapons in order to trigger brave attacks. Teams with more ranged units will most likely choose Bridal Catria, while melee-heavy teams should choose Winter Cordelia.
How to Counter
Embla shuts down Savior balls, and is often fielded on a Cavline team. These teams have powerful offensive options, but they all lack bulk.
Ensure you field an offensive raiding party in Light season such as Galeforce or Hit and Run. Using these teams, you can pick off most of the enemy units on turn one and then either retreat or unit block the remaining enemies in order to collect Aether resources on future turns.
Summer Edelgard is an amazing unit to field against Embla Cavlines, with her ability to act up to three times in one turn with Raging Storm and Galeforce. Equip self-recoil skills like Fury on her A and Sacred Seal slots, and bring a handful of units that can act multiple times in one turn with Wings of Mercy 3 equipped in order to sweep the map and keep your units safe.
Alternatively, a Vantage strategy can be fielded against these teams in order to prevent knockouts on any of your raiding party units.
Use a unit with high Atk, equip Vantage 3 or similar skills onto them, and move them forward. If using Vantage, ensure that they are under the HP threshold and that none of the enemy units can bypass it through the use of Hardy Bearing or sweep effects.
Legendary Veronica is a powerful offensive cavalry unit, but she suffers the same weaknesses as most of them with her lack of bulk. As mentioned above, bring a Player Phase team composition and defeat her before she can land an attack.
Seiðr's Future-Focused only functions on odd-numbered turns, rendering her without a C skill on even-numbered turns.
By fielding a refresher unit on your defense team, they can immediately refresh the action of your unit that was affected by Future-Focused. Position your refresher unit in a way that they can reach any of your front units on the first turn.
Winter Cordelia can be countered similarly to Bridal Catria by any of these options below:
- Baiting out a weak side of the defense team while keeping away from the other side's units.
- Using a Player Phase team to defeat multiple enemies before the defense team can counterattack.
- Bringing Elimine to inflict 【False Start】 onto Winter Cordelia to prevent Inseverable Spear from granting 【Dual Strike】 to her allies.
