Rock Pikmin are the only Pikmin in Pikmin 3 Deluxe that can break down obstructions like glass walls, crystals, and tough enemy shells. As a rule of thumb, if you run into a hard looking object that other pikmin cannot attack, chances are that it's a job for these little guys!
We recommend using Rock Pikmin against hard to break barriers, shelled enemies, or Shutterchucks who carry crystals on their backs.
Rock Pikmin have a sturdy exterior, making them a useful ally against enemies that can stomp or trample your Pikmin. Due to their hard bodies, they only get buried in the ground whenever an enemy attempts to stomp or trample your pikmin, allowing them to survive a crushing death.
Use Rock Pikmin to initiate fights against enemies that can trample and stomp your Pikmin to avoid casualties. Rolling boulders will not damage rock pikmin, so bring them along when you're up against this type of obstacle.
Rock Pikmin will be the second type of Pikmin to join your party in Pikmin 3 Deluxe.
In the Garden of Hope, near the beginning of the game, Alph encounters Rock Pikmin inside a cave. He saves them from a Medusal Slurker and frees their Onion nest trapped within a large crystal.
Rock Pikmin pellets can be found almost anywhere after this.
