How to Play Multiplayer | Is There Online Co Op?

This guide will show you all the different modes of multiplayer present in Pikmin 3 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch. If you plan on playing with a friend, or want to play online, read on to see what you can do!

How to Play Multiplayer

Share and Play

Multiplayer Pikmin 3

Even with only one Nintendo Switch, you can play with 2 people if you have 2 Joy-Con controllers.

The game is also compatible with the Nintento Switch Pro Controller, it is possible to play 2 Joy-Cons and a Pro Controller.

You Can Select Multiplayer Anytime From the Options Menu

You can select 2-player mode anytime from the Options menu. You can switch between 1 to 2 players regardless of the current game mode.

Co-Op Split Screen for Better Efficiency!

You can split your screen in multiplayer mode to increase your work efficiency. This co-op mode works in both the story and mission mode of Pikmin 3 Deluxe.

Throwing your friend to other areas will allow you to explore separately. You are guaranteed to enjoy exploring with a friend.

Bingo Battle

Bingo Battle is a special multiplayer battle mode where players get the bingo cards they receive in the beginning filled.

The bingo marks on the card are filled by gathering the corresponding fruits or indigenious species. Of course, you can use your Pikmin to interfere with your friend as well. You can use special Pikmin in this mode that you cannot meet in the story. There are also several maps to choose from which adds to the fun in playing with a friend.

Is There Online Co Op?

Multiplayer Limited to Single Console

Co Op Play

While it did seem intially like there would be some kind of online multiplayer included with this version, the official site confirmed that multiplayer is limited to local (single console) multiplayer only. If you were hoping to play through the story mode with a friend, you'll need to be at the same location.

Scores Can Be Shared Online

While there is no actual multiplayer announced at the moment, you will be able to share scores online for modes like Story / Mission Mode. In order to use this feature, a Nintendo Online Subscription is required.
