To take Rockruff's 2 Star photo, start Badlands (Night) at Research Level 1. Wait for Rockruff and the others to gather around the pool of water. Take a photo of Rockruff reacting to the geyser to obtain its 2 Star photo.

Howling at Mandibuzz
Taking a 3 Star photo of Rockruff requires following the same steps when completing the Guardian of Friends Lentalk Request.

| 1 |  Start Badlands (Night) at Research Level 2. Throw an Illumina Orb at the digging Digletts at the beginning of the course. Once at least three Digletts are near the boulder, light up the Crystabloom. Run a scan to take the alternate route. |

| 2 |  As you go through the alternate route, you will see a Rockruff sleeping beside Tepig, Torchic, and Shinx. Hit Rockruff with a Fluffruit to wake it up. |
| 3 | Once Rockruff is awake, a Mandibuzz will fly in and try to scare the four Pokemon. Throw an Illumina Orb at Rockruff to get it to roar at the Mandibuzz and defend its friends. Zoom in on Rockruff and take a photo of it roaring to obtain its 3 star photo. |

To take a 4 Star photo of Rockruff, you need to follow the same steps above when obtaining its 3 Star photo.
