How to Beat Ancient Leshen

Ancient Leshen Tips
· Carry multiple Flash Pods
· Use the Wide-Range skill for survivability
· Raising your Health Boost skill is a must

Using Your Flash Pods

Ancient Leshen can sometimes perform a troublesome attack that can instantly cart or restrain you. This attack can only be stopped by shooting a Flash Pod directly to the Ancient Leshen's face. Try to bring as much Flash Pods as you can to save your party members or to counter the attack.

Wide Range and Speed Eating

Most of the Ancient Leshen's attacks are very powerful and it can take a huge chunk of your health. It is recommended that one of your party members will focus on healing by equipping the Wide-Range and Speed Eating skill to keep your party health high.

Health Boost and Guts Skill

Since Ancient Leshen has an extremely high damage output, there will be times that he can cart you with one-shot. It is best that you focus on building up your Health Boost skill to increase your survivability or even getting the skill Guts to lessen the times that you will cart during the hunt.

There are two different movement patterns that the Ancient Leshen will follow, try to save up your mantle cooldown and only use them on narrow areas such as Area 2 of Pattern 1 and Area 7 of Pattern 2.

Pattern 1 Area 12 - Area 5 - Area 4 - Area 2
Pattern 2 Area 12 - Area 8 - Area 7 - Area 6

Weakening Ancient Leshen

You can weaken Ancient Leshen by focusing your attacks on his antlers and destroy them as soon as you can. This will lower the amount of Jagras that will spawn when he tries to call for them.

Resistance and Status Ailments

the Ancient Leshen has a higher resistance value than the normal Leshen variant. Poison will still work to some extent. However, for the paralysis, it will require more hits from your weapon before you can inflict the status ailment.

Difference Between Ancient Leshen and Leshen

· Attack that can instantly cart you
· The number of Jagras drastically increases
· Additional restraint attack
· The range of crow and root attacks are now wider
· More Aggressive

Tips on Avoiding Attacks

Instant Cart Attack · Use Flash Pod
· Avoid using the Temporal Mantle
· Superman dive to get out of range
Restraint Attack · Burn the roots with Igni
· Recover health by using Dust of Life
· Use Flash Pods
Multiple Jagras · Lure them in a tight area and use Large Barrel Bomb
· Use Flash Pods to stun them

Flash Pods

The Ancient Leshen has many troublesome attacks that can be easily stopped using a Flash Pod. Be sure to bring as many as you can as well as the required materials to craft them. Also, try to set it up in your shortcut so you can use them immediately as soon as it is required.

Use the Rocks in Area 12

When the Ancient Leshen spawns in area 12, he will spawn below the collapsable rocks at the beginning of the hunt. Use this as an opening and drop it on top of the Ancient Leshen to deal 3,375 damage. Also, since the Jagras around the Ancient Leshen will be within its range, this will completely wipe them out.

Ancient Leshen's One-Shot Attack

How to Beat - Ancient Leshen 3.gif
The Ancient Leshen's one-shot attack can be easily avoided by checking the Handler's Message, but since you can stop this attack using a Flash Pod, it is better that you Flash him instead or equip the Temporal Mantle to keep dealing damage without having to worry about carting.

This attack will only be used in the last area. However, if your party's DPS is extremely high, the Ancient Leshen will eventually use it on other areas as well.

Window Time

The attack takes about 4 seconds to perform, if you keep checking the Ancient Leshen's movements, this will give you enough time to prepare your Flash Pod or get away from its range. Try to keep an eye on the Ancient Leshen to avoid getting hit from this attack.

Amount of Jagras

How to Beat - Ancient Leshen 5.png
The normal variant of Leshen can call four Jagras at a time. However, for the Ancient Leshen, he can call 8 of them at once. This will also boost the physical damage of the Jagras and it can be troublesome if left unattended. It is best that you deal with them using your Flash Pod and defeat them all at once as soon as they spawn.

Restriction Attack

The Ancient Leshen has an attack that can restrain hunters and take a huge chunk of their health using the roots from his hands.

If a party member is restrained, try to immediately shoot a Flash Pod directly to the Ancient Leshen's face to counter this attack. Also, since the restrained hunter cannot use any items, there should be at least 2 hunters that can heal the party to prevent anyone from carting if your main healer gets caught.

When to Move Away

The Ancient Leshen will always raise one of his arms up before he can perform the restrain attack. Be sure that you watch out for this move and constantly move around to avoid this attack.

Also, if the Ancient Leshen is enraged, he can sometimes perform this attack three times in a row. Make sure that the Ancient Leshen is finished attacking before you try to start engaging again.

Ancient Leshen's Enmity

Once you gain the Ancient Leshen's Enmity, try to keep on moving and force the Ancient Leshen to face away from your team. This will give them the opportunity to attack with their most powerful combos to maximize your party's DPS.

Increased Range and Power

The Ancient Leshen has a wider range and is more powerful compared to the normal Leshen variant. In particular, the range of the root attacks is now tripled and it is a lot more difficult to avoid. The number of rolls needed to get away from the roots is 3 to 4 when fighting the Ancient Leshen.

Using the Igni Sign

The Igni Sign is the most effective item that you can use to take care of the roots that the Ancient Leshen spawns. This can remove the roots that restrain your allies or the root wall that the Ancient Leshen use to protect itself. However, since the Ancient Leshen is now less likely to flinch from this, it is not recommended that you rely on this too much.
