The Boaboa is the tribe of Grimalkyne found in the Hoarfrost Reach. This area is unlocked in the Monster Hunter World (MHW) Iceborne Expansion when the Lynian Researcher sends you off on a quest called Cultural Exchange: Hoarfrost Reach.
Unlike the Grimalkyne that we were first introduced to in the base game, the Boaboa are protected from the cold with thick white fur and a Popo helmet.
The Boaboa are native to the Hoarfrost Reach.
Where To Find Boaboa | |

Zone 2 | Near Trees |
Zone 6 | Near Hot Spring |
Zone 9 | Center |
Much like the Troopers of the Coral Highlands and the Gajalaka of the Elder Recess, the Boaboa are initially hostile. You must gain their friendship by proving yourself in a hunt.
In the Resource Center, you can register the bounty Cultural Exchange: Hoarfrost Reach.
You must go on an expedition to the Hoarfrost Reach and hunt any large monster. It is better to hunt the Beotodus now to learn it's move set before engaging in battle with a Tempered Beotodus to gain the Boaboa's friendship.
The Boaboa will be at your camp when you arrive to observe your hunting skills. So put on a good fight!
Once you defeat the large monster, return to camp. The Boaboa will meet you with praise and will invite you to their council meeting.
Go to Area 2 and hitch a ride on a wingdrake to Area 17. Once you arrive at the council meeting, they reveal their intention-- to ask you to hunt a Tempered Beotodus.
This quest has a series of actions it will ask you to complete to move on to the next stage, unlike most quests wherein you track down the monster and hunt it.
You must lure a Popo into the open as bait, and when the frosty fish approaches, you strike!
Once you complete this quest, you will have gained the friendship of the Boaboa.
One of the perks of forging this friendship with the native Boaboa of the Hoarfrost Reach is unlocking the Raider Ride!
In your pouch, there is an option to summon a Raider Ride. This will call a Wulg to bring you to your pinned destination or the monster you are tracking down.
This gadget allows you to call Tailraiders by lighting a beacon. Any Lynians or Tailraider monsters nearby will come to your aid.
