Elemental Blights are another kind of status change, but this time, they are mostly inflicted by monsters and will therefore always have a negative effect. Monsters associated with a particular element will inflict the same blight on you. For example, Jyuratodus is of the water element, and so can give you Waterblight.
Blights, while troublesome, can be quickly cleansed with a nulberry. You can also prevent them with specific mantles.
Blight | Description |
---|---|
Dragonblight | This blight negates your weapon's elemental and abnormal status properties. This blight is sneakier than most since it will only appear as an icon. Be sure to keep an eye out for it! |
Fireblight | This blight gradually decreases your health. Besides the icon, you will also see your health bar flash orange, in addition to your hunter being on fire. You can also roll into water to immediately get rid of it, or just roll three times if there is no water in sight. |
Iceblight | This blight increases your stamina consumption. Besides the icon, you will also see your stamina bar become cyan, in addition to your hunter having frost on their body. |
Thunderblight | This blight makes it easier for monsters to stun you. Besides the icon, you will also see electricity crackling around your hunter. |
Waterblight | This blight slows down your stamina recovery. Besides the icon, you will also see your stamina bar become blue, in addition to your hunter looking extra sweaty. |
Abnormal Statuses, like Elemental Blights, are still mostly inflicted by monsters—except this time, these come from certain attacks rather than elemental ones. For example, when Rathian does her spinning attack and her tail hits you, she will inflict you with Poison.
Unlike Elemental Blights, Abnormal Statuses do not have a universal cure. There are decorations that can negate these Abnormal Statuses, so those might be worth looking into.
Abnormal Status | Description |
---|---|
Blastblight | Blastblight will cause a damaging explosion after a certain amount of time has passed, or upon sustaining a heavy impact. Besides the icon, there will also be sparks and fire around your hunter. You can get rid of this by eating a nulberry or by rolling three times. |
Blastscourge | Blastscourge is a stronger version of Blastblight that causes a greater amount of damage when it explodes. |
Bleeding | Bleeding causes you to lose health whenever you move. Besides the icon, your health bar will flash dark pink, in addition to your hunter visibly bleeding. You can fight this off by staying still and crouching for a few seconds, or by eating meat like Astera Jerky or a Well-Done Steak. |
Effluvial Buildup | Effluvial buildup lowers your maximum health. Besides the icon, you will notice your hunter coughing repeatedly while they have Effluvial Buildup. To get rid of this, you can leave an area filled with effluvium or simply consume a nulberry. |
Paralysis | Paralysis makes you unable to move for a period of time. Besides the icon, your hunter will look like they are being electrocuted while lying down on the ground. Getting knocked airborne by a monster will cleanse Paralysis. You can also speed up your recovery by moving your left stick around on a controller, or by repeatedly pressing your W key on your keyboard. Otherwise, it will eventually go away on its own. |
Poison | Poison gradually depletes your health. Besides the icon, you will also see your health bar flash purple, in addition to your hunter being covered in dark purple goop. It will eventually go away on its own, but it is much better to cure it with Antidote, Herbal Medicine, or Herbal Powder. |
Venom | Acts the same as Poison, except that Venom depletes your health at a much faster rate. |
Sleep | Sleep causes you to become drowsy, quickly succumbing to sleep right where you stand. While you are still falling asleep, you can fight it off by chugging an Energy Drink. You can also get attacked by a monster, a teammate, or your Palico. Otherwise, you just have to wait to wake up. |
Stun | The stun status incapacitates you for a short time. Being attacked by the monster, your Palico, or a teammate will cleanse Stun. You can also speed up your recovery by moving your left stick around on a controller, or by repeatedly pressing your W key on your keyboard. Otherwise, it will eventually go away on its own. |
