Best Equipment and Items for Arch-Tempered Kushala Daora

With the Iceborne expansion, the Arch-Tempered monsters from the base game offers little to no threat anymore. Below, we will provide an example of an iceborne setup with some of the necessary skills to easily take down the Daora.

Best Skills

Tool Specialist Faster cooldown for your Rocksteady Mantle means a useless wind barrier.
Slugger Kushala Daora's head is its extreme weakness and can knock daora down when hit. Using Slugger makes hitting the head more valuable.
Elderseal boost Negates the activation of Wind Barrier.
Weakness Exploit You'll want to keep on wounding the head. This will make all damage to it extremely higher.
Critical Boost More damage to the head.
Health Boost More survivability

Writer's Note (Why no Wind Resist)

Wind Resist requires several skill slots to equip and even then, it will not block the windbarrier surrounding Daora. The 5 skill slots are better off being invested somewhere else. Daora will always try to keep the barrier up specially when enraged and with the Iceborne meta, if monsters aren't enraged, you're playing the game wrong.

Always wall slam the Daora for free downs, this will also open up opportunities to hit the head resulting in more downs (which we invested more skills for that time window instead of a QOL skill that won't even be used half the fight).

Best Weapons

Hammers! Daora's weakness is its head. Having a hammer with its high blunt damage can easily take down the Daora while stunning it in the process.
Dragon Weapons With high dragon element, it is possible to keep on knocking down the Daora with repeated strikes to the head.
Thunder Weapons The Daora is weak to thunder so it makes sense to bring a weapon with high thunder elemental value.
Blast Weapons Alternatively, you can also opt for blast weapons as Daora has 3 star weakness to it. This is highly recommended for speedy weapons like the SnS and DB.

hunter guide A sample hammer loadout. This is a standard hammer build and not much modification is needed against the Daora. Just make sure to always use the Rocksteady Mantle when the Barrier is up. Try to use Temporal to slam the Daora to the wall for more knockdowns.

Best Mantles

Temporal Mantle Easy way to dodge its attacks and it also allows you to flinch shot Daora much easier.
Rocksteady Mantle Similar to the Temporal but it can be used also be used to ignore Daora's wind barriers, wind pressures, and roars.

Best Items

Max Potion Instant full healing.
Ancient Potion More instant full healing.
Flash Pod An item that is extremely valuable for normal Daoras. For Arch-Tempered however, it's a bit trickier to use. Use it while Daora is on the ground, this will confuse it and not cause it to fly.
Poison Smoke Bomb This allows you to not equip yourself nor your palico with poison weapons. They aren't must haves but will add some DPS to your arsenal.

Best Felyne Skills, Weapons, and Gadgets

Felyne Garuga Fan Alpha+ Kushala Daora is susceptible to poison so a poison palico weapon will work wonders.
Felyne Nergigante hammer Alpha + Alternatively, you can equip your palico with a weapon that has high elder seal. This can remove the Daora's wind barrier.
Meowlotov Cocktail More damage. If your palico is equipped with a weapon with status attributes/elder seal, the meowlotov cocktail will also be able to use these properties. Meaning more elderseal procs against Daora.
Felyne Safeguard Additional lives (carts) is always welcome.

How to Beat Arch-Tempered Kushala Daora

Flash Pods and Crafting

Kushala Daora will constantly fly during the hunt making the fight extremely long since you will only have a limited amount of time to attack. Unlike the normal Daora, the Arch-Tempered Daora cannot be downed. This makes using the Flash Pod more valuable when it's on the ground to prevent it from flying.

Wind Protection

When Kushala Daora is enraged, he will create a strong wind pressure surrounding his body to protect itself. You can remove the wind by attacking his head or by using a weapon with an Elderseal.

Fighting Head-on

Keep in mind that Kushala Daora's wind pressure can make attacking difficult. Be sure to take caution when approaching Kushala Daora and prioritize dodging over finishing your combos.

Weakpoints for Bullets and Arrows

How to Beat - Kushala Daora 1.png
Long-range weapons like bows and guns have an advantage over melee weapons since it does not require you to get closer in order to deal damage. However, most of Kushala Daora's body can negate projectile attacks. If you are using a bow or a gun, be sure to aim for the tail or the head to deal damage.

High-Pressure Wind Projectile

Using a long-range weapon does not guarantee your safety. Kushala Doara will sometimes fire a fast-moving high wind pressure projectile that can deal massive damage if you get hit directly. Always be prepared to dodge whenever Kushala Daora lifts his head.

Move Away From the Tornado

How to Beat - Kushala Daora 2.png
Kushala Daora will summon a tornado from time to time throughout the fight. Try to lure Kushala Daora away from the Tornado to lessen the obstacles you have to deal with during the fight.

Also, wearing Rocksteady Mantle while inside the tornado can instantly kill you due to the multiple hits that it can give without blowing you away.

Area 4 Platform

When Kushala Daora flies away to rest in Area 4. He will sit on top of the platform with very little space. Try to avoid fighting while standing on this platform as it can restrict your movements especially if there are multiple tornadoes in the area.

You can try to use Challenger Mantle to lure Kushala Daora out of this area and fight him on a better terrain.

Flashing Kushala Daora

Ideally, it is best if you do not allow Kushala Daora to return to Area 4 to rest. Use a Flash Pod to stop him from flying away from your current area to gain a huge advantage. Also, this will down Kushala Daora for a few seconds giving you more time to break his parts.

Large Barrel Bombs

How to Beat - Kushala Daora 3.png
If you manage to make Kushala Daora sleep or if he returns to Area 4 to rest. Prepare Large Barrel Bombs on his head before waking him up to deal massive damage without having to worry about the wind pressure attacks.

Aim for the head

Kushala Doara's main weak point is the head. Aiming for the head will give you the highest damage output when attacking Kushala Daora. Also, if you manage to deal enough damage to the head, Kushala Daora will go down giving you a chance to deal even more damage.
