How We Chose the Weapon Types

The weapons we'll be recommending were chosen based on ease of use. However, there are times when certain weapons aren't as effective against specific monsters so we can't say they are the absolute best in every situation.

Best Weapons for Beginners

Sword and Shield

With a sword and shield, not only can you guard, but you can also get quite a few hits in before backing off. You have a lot of mobility as well making it easy to handle and great for beginners.

Great Sword

Great swords make up for their lack of mobility with raw power. You may not be able to get many hits in, but your overall damage is incredibly high making it a good choice for hit and run strategies. Beginners will have a typically easy time making use of great swords to deal a lot of damage.

Long Sword

When using a long sword, as you land hits you will charge up your Spirit Gauge. You'll be unable to block, but overall long swords are quite balanced, making them easy to pick up for beginners.

Conclusion

The above was our recommended weapons for starting out in Monster Hunter World. They may be easy for beginners to use, but that doesn't mean they can't be used in endgame content.
